I don't think it's just the arms. Eyes are the windows to the soul, as they say. When you're dealing with a small silent sprite, it's where most of the personality of a character comes from. | |||

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of moles in the castle, I was just posing the possibility of changing their GFX just for this level. And yeah, the palette swapping DOES sound a bit annoying.
The sunglasses just don't work on Mario, I'd sooner have an angry looking Mario than a Mario that looks like a traffic cop. |

Originally posted by Sgraff87 Originally posted by Joshua368 Yeah, I'm not liking the way the shades look on this particular sprite. It's not a bad idea, but I don't want to redo this entire sprite to make it work. Maybe someone else can use it on a different sprite. The standing pose isn't exactly as I'd like it to be. The fact that it has to be part of Mario's walkcycle is kind of sucky, because any frame that looks all right at rest won't look good in the middle of a stride. Maybe I should just go ahead and have him bend his arms up so that his hands are at his belly. Originally posted by Mr. Saturn OK, so a while back someone posted a topic about how they couldn't change Monty Mole's palette with Tweaker, and I was all, "THOU FOOL! Of course you can! I've personally done it!" Yeah, it turns out Tweaker can change Ground Dwelling Mole's palette, but not the Ledge Dweller. So yeah, I'm completely stuck with them using Mario's palette. That means I couldn't do red crabs, because they'd change color to orange if Mario got a Fire Flower. Monty Mole must always remain tan in color. Originally posted by pikaguy900 I'm a lot better now. Take your time. |

Glad to hear that Icegoom. I feel your pain...stomach flu totally sucks. And you gave me the inspiration to start working on my SMW hack again with this cool hack of yours.
I like the new coral even better, but it's still not quite there. If you can leave that pattern as it is, but make the texture stand out just a little bit more, it would look great. So 5 worlds will be the whole hack? If you don't count the star world, sounds a bit short...I've always preferred many short worlds to a few long ones. Just my opinion--feel free to make your hack your way. Do you have an idea how many levels there'll be in all? Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna fire up Lunar Magic and get cracking on my first world again. |

You could edit the Monty Moles into some type of flopping fish that chases Mario when hes nearby.
But its probably best to keep the Monty Moles. Change is good. =\ |

^ See him? He meant bad... Change is BAD...
Oh yeah, and I can't wait for this game Icegoom! Any special blocks or other neat additions your going to be showing off? Because I really want to play that briar level... Looks so hard, but I think I could do it. With 96 lives. 73 If I dont try to get the yoshi coins... anyway, love the levels, love the graphics, love the map. And how did you do that toadsworth preveiw? Was that the opening scene? Hows your story gonna go after that? <-Dont answer that last one. I wanna find out the hard way! |

Originally posted by Phazorite It certainly doesn't feel short as I'm making it. Let's see, my first world has seven levels, my second one has ten, and the Star World has five, so scale that up. I like for each level to be unique, so I'm going to run out of ideas eventually. Originally posted by Bones_the_Great Special blocks? I'm not much of a programmer. Just a few standard block tool additions, I'm afraid. I consider my bramble level to be a lot easier than bramble levels in other hacks I've played. I at least give the player plenty of room to run and jump. I really hate it when you're expected to make all your jumps by barely tapping the spin jump key lest you hit your head on the briars located three inches above your head for the entire freakin' span of the level. Toadsworth is just a message box disguised as a quote bubble hovering over a couple of custom graphics tiles, like the Toads in Super Mario Odyssey. |

I don't think he is gonna release a demo. Hes probably going to release the whole game when its 100% complete. Can't wait, I had an easier time waiting for xbox 360 and PS3 than this little hack of his. It is going to be truly amasing. I'm holding my breathe so please do hurry!
PS - Can anyone help him hack alternate dead graphics for dry bones and boney beetles? I think he still needs help with that. |

Can't wait for this hack! I just got my Nintendo DS and plan to get NSMB soon. Chibi Gatomon is right--it's almost as if you recreated NSMB in a hack, which is not something just anyone can do.
And axe the sunglasses. They really make Mario look like a hit man. Maybe an Tarzan-movie style "explorer's cap" would be better. Speaking of dinosaurs, I saw your newest list of custom sprite graphics, and your Reznors look PWNAGE. If you have any experience with ASM, how about making them tougher and putting them as separate enemies in a volcano level? That would be cool. So how's your progress coming? Are you gonna release a demo soon or keep us hanging till you get the whole thing done? |

Originally posted by Phazorite Heh. I got kind of busy around Christmas and barely worked on this, so however long it was going to be until there was a demo just got a couple weeks longer. I don't ever say that I'll have something done by a certain date, since I always end up going way past my deadlines and just making people angry. The plan's always been to release the demo after I get the first two worlds and the star world completely done. It's kind of frustrating that the bulk of the levels are completely playable, but there's a huge list of piddly things that need fixing before I want to release it publically. It's like, "I should release a demo of world one... Oh, wait, there's that platform that I still haven't drawn graphics for in the second level. Yeah, that'd look really bad if I released that publically. Oh, and that really old background in level three looks terrible. Man, I really need to fix that. And, oh crap, there's that pipe that leads nowhere in level five because I keep putting off doing the bonus area..." And so on. But let's see, progress... I applied BMF's Block Tool Slowdown fix and rearranged my blocks, which really helped a couple of levels that had been unbearably laggy. I did start some actual new levels, but they're in a super primitive stage at this point. I spent a lot of time recently doing sprites for a side project, but I'm getting back into Lost World now. Originally posted by Bones_the_Great Yeah, you're probably setting your expectations a little high for this hack. Remember, this is my first hack, and the fact that I'm able to draw my own graphics doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to be able to create great levels. I try to be as professional as I can in creating levels, but no doubt there's going to be balance issues and all kinds of nasty bugs I've somehow missed. I would love it if someone found the tilemaps for the crumbled undead. I don't really have need to give Dry Bones and Bony Beetles separate animations anymore, but it'd be nice to be able to move the animations into a move convenient spot and create some more versatile enemy sets. Originally posted by Phazorite Yeah, I suck at anything resembling programming. Reznors will probably show up in a volcano level, but they'll just be their normal boss-y selves. If I could create sprites I'd be making working Chain Chomps and Bloopers before I ever did anything to Reznor. |

An over-one-month bump, followed by a 10 day self-reply bump with something that could have been just as well asked via PM. Doesn't seem like you learned anything from losing approval.
Just let this thread die already. *closes* (edited by blackhole89 on 02-14-07 07:31 PM) |
