Yeah, these graphics are rad and totally blow everything out of the water, etc.

Just wanna say that the Forest background looks a bit cluttered with all the leaves and stuff, and "Mario's Lost World" is a little hard to read. The Ocean Liner is super-rad, though.

I'm hoping this is a palette issue. Contrast turned up on the title and way down on the backdrop:

Easier to make out?

BTW, you almost stole my next hack name, "super mario, the lost world"

Aw, I looked around and didn't see anyone using the title, so I thought I'd claim it since it's a good'un.

In the bone pit/ectoplasm level, the ectoplasm pool doesn't seem like it goes all the way down, so it just looks like a coat of goo on the floor, not a pool.

Yeah, it's just recolored flowing lava that's only on the bottom row of the screen. I can probably move that whole section of the level up a couple of blocks without affecting gameplay too much.

After doing a number of tests (on-screen colour count, pixel alignments) I can say this quite surely is not a fake or photomontage. Thus, I am honestly impressed, not to say astonished.

Thanks for verifying me. A lot of the graphics are already publically available in my SMW Redrawn hack, but I've put a lot of work into my backgrounds since then.

Heh...I've heard so much about you icegoom, but I never thought I would see one of your hacks. These are absolutely incredible screenshots, it just feels like a whole new game. I disagree with Kyouji though, I actually think the overworld suits the theme of the game well, but like you said, it is too bright.

Great work, and I love the new sprites

Whoa, that is totally amazing! Really nice work, icegoom!

I was wondering what your backgrounds would look like, and the ones you have in this hack surpassed my every expectation.

I really don't like Mario's palette though. You should just copy his palette from SMB3 or something. And please use the classic palette for Fire Mario.

Another thing, I see your ? blocks aren't animated. Why not just copy the other 3 frames from NSMB?

This is astonishing! If you need anyone to test it for glitches and grammar errors, and just to see the level of difficulty and kickass-ness, I'd be willing to.

This hack is probably going to be the best ever, 90% becuase of gfx.
The "copyright2006 Icegoom" text/font looks tacky as hell in front of your uber gfx

SO does anyone want to email nintendo this topic's link?

Freaky how our goomba designs are similiar, yet I never laid an eye on yours.

But very excellent job. A fine example how gfx and level design alone can make a hack look out of this world.

... I assume you haven't... *Notices gap in bonus cards area* Weird. I saw that hack before Lost World. You never saw his, but there's a chance he saw yours... Blah, whatever. I'd probably feel a little flattered that someone was inspired by my sprite GFX or made an updated version.

Well I'm not saying one copied from the other. He made his way before I made mine. I remember looking through his sprite thread, but I never paid much attention to the Goomba.

And here I'd thought that I uploaded those screenshots to my website about ten minutes before I posted them here. Oh well, I guess you'd know better than me...

I used the blue of Mario's overalls to shade his eyes and gloves, which prevents me from doing traditional Fire Mario colors. Just something I didn't think through very well when I was first drawing the sprite. I'm actually considering putting Mario in "vacation clothes" for this hack, which would include a short sleeved Hawaiian shirt, so I'd have to do new palettes anyway. There were no New SMB rips when I first did the Question Block. I just drew it looking off a screenshot. I certainly will add the extra frames now.

Yeah, we're both just basing our sprites off the most recent character art, I'd say. And you are of course doing amazing things with NES graphics.

And get me shut down?

So I'm thinking maybe it wasn't wise to post this topic right before I had several days in a row in which I couldn't work on my hack. That's just the way I roll, I guess. At this point, I have seven levels I need to get finished before I'm willing to release a first demo. Three of them I'm over halfway done with already, but four I've barely started. (Two of those are castles. Been putting those off...) My working speed varies wildly, so I have no clue how long it's gonna be.

My gods. I am in absolute awe.
What would make this amazing is if the graphics flowed smoothly (IIRC, there's a way to extend animation is sprites) to fit the new graphical feel. That would really tie the package up nicely.
Regardless, I can't WAIT to play this.

That is such a totally brilliant idea. DO IT!

This hack does look absolutely amazing. I dont know about anyone else, but to me - this looks like something Nintendo would have come up with on the Game Boy Advance.

It looks that good.

And also - are you planning on editing the status bars, etc at all? It seems a bit of a shame that they're the same as the original SMW when everything else is so new and awesome. And then the only thing left stopping this hack from feeling like a completely new game would be the music. But we all know that's not going to change! haha.

WOW! OMFG! ELKFNDKEN!
Ahem
Okay so those graphics are INSANELY COOL!
I heart love the goombas most. The shyguys are cool too.
And the world map... Better than some published games.
Marios graphics have to be stolen. They're just to good!
So... How did you make the enemies? Are they new skins on the old enemies? Or do you have some program that makes new enemies? Cuz I use lunar magic, it's great cuz it's so user friendly... But I can't edit enemies or any code or anything. And I wanted to have prieviews before certain levels. Maybe I just don't know how to use lunar magic to the fullest yet. If there is a better program out there please let me know!

Yeah, the enemies are pretty much the same old enemies with new graphics, hand drawn and then put in with YY-Chr. You can currently make small adjustments to enemy behavior with mikeyk's Tweaker, or you can wait until Sprite Tool comes out to insert all new enemies. The only levels I know of that Lunar Magic can't preview are boss levels.

If you want to use any of my character graphics, I released them in a demo a while back that can be used as a base for hacks. Somebody recently uploaded it to SMWCentral, so you can download SMW Redrawn here. I've gotten a lot more foreground stuff done since I released that, but it'd be pointless to release a new patch before I got all the graphics changed.
