| Ahhh fun. Once again I find myself in a situation where I am likely going to have to do some "advanced" complaining about a service.
I have recently been receiving harassing phone calls from local Media. The phone calls relate to the prominent news case of David Hicks -- a terror suspect being held at Guantánamo Bay, by the US Government. David Hicks is an Australian, and his father lives in Adelaide, Australia -- his father's name is Terry. Now, what the Media seems to think "Investigative Journalism" is, is to call all the T Hicks' in the phone book looking for Terry.  It's not like this is a new case or anything, so I wonder why they don't already have Terry's phone number on file. And this happens each and every time David Hicks / Guantánamo Bay appears in the news.
The calls are getting rude, and have been happening as early as 6.30am in the morning (when you get calls this early you tend to assume it's bad news relating to family illness / accident / death and you freak out), and they've been starting to get nasty. The last caller said "If you want us to stop bothering you, you better find out Terry Hicks' number so you can give it to us when we call". 
So, I complained to my telephone service about the matter. They were good -- they have a procedure in place for nuisance and harassment calls, they will change my phone number (for free) and change my listing. That's all well and good. For once Telstra are being nice (omfg what?). Then there's my ISP. They (TPG Internet) are not being nice. Even though they don't have to do anything, they are charging $99 for this. They don't see what's wrong with charging $99 to do nothing either, particularly when other agencies in the case of harassment do these things for free. Hell, even a charge of $10 would be better (still annoying, but better), not the ridiculous fee I'm getting. I've asked to speak to Managers and such but been kinda told that it's not happening. So, I've had to log this case with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman in order to actually get this resolved. I've advised the TIO that in short, TPG are generally being very unhelpful, that they are charging to do.. nothing... (they don't have to make any infrastructure change or anything!) and that they are unwilling to compromise at all in regards to this matter. I feel like I'm being penalised for having the name "T Hicks". 
So now I have a reference number from the TIO, and I've advised TPG that I've escalated this case. TPG now have 10 working days to come up with a resolution to this or I go back to the TIO who can impose really big fines upon Telecommunications providers who act like stinky jerks. Isn't Advanced Complaining fun? Wonder if TPG will be more reasonable, instead of OMFG FREE MONEY!! |

Well, after contacting the TIO and such, they say that this should be free but they're not sure. Amazing how after I call the TIO, they're all nice, competent and become good listeners. |
