Hello. I`m trying to hack Super GnG's rom without success.
My goal is find where the enemy info is stored. Hacking the graphics is cool, but still the same game after all. What I wanting to do is change the enemy location within the maps.
As a totally noob in rom hacking any clue or help about where the hell is located the enemy data would be greatly apreciated. I just spent hours corrupting data of the rom and nothing happened.

Thanks

I wonder why nobody hacked one of the greatest platform games ever.

I asked a similar question not to much time ago, to find stuff by yourself (assuming that there's no info about that game), you have to divide the rom in parts and corrupt each part.
Example:

Let's say this is the rom:
XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX
corrupt a half (or 1/4 or whatever)
00 00 00 00 | XX XX XX XX let's say the game crashes, here might be what you are looking for or maybe not.
Now you corrupt the half of that part
00 00 | XX XX | XX XX XX XX The game doesn't crash, but what you are looking for doesn't so here is nothing.
the same with the other part:
XX XX | 00 | XX | XX XX XX XX the enemies are messed up, so here is the enemy data, but since you don't want to mess with other stuff you have to repeat this until you mess only the enemies.

I hope that helped.
There should be an sticky or something about this or something... I only see stuff for newbies and advanced hackers, but nothing for medium-level XD

Well, I spent hours and I got some messed up enemies, just the graphics. They keeped the same behavior. I´m not sure if there is the enemy data. ¿Do you know if the enemy location on a stage and the enemy sprite are usually in the same offset?

Thanks for you kindness Shiryu, brave knight of the zodiac. By the way I know how to change the enemies behaviour a little bit (speed, fireballs..). It´s a good beginning for a noob.

Just for curiosity I checked the rom graphics using Tile Molester. It´s interesting. I only can see Arthur related sprites (armors, weapons, the magician, the tranformations and the heroe himself). The rest of the rom is a big pile of garbage.¿Can they be compressed? It´s bizarre. ¿Why compress all graphic tiles except the main character? I also checked the GBA version of the game (that includes new stuff). Well, I only can see Arthur and all the new gba remake stuff (The new four bosses, backgrounds...)

They are compressed. Maybe they don't compress the main character becouse since it's the most used sprite they would have to decompress it everytime...
And I don't know many of this game, but I think it's similar to demon's crest so maybe the status bar is decompresed in a 8 bit format...

and a good idea might be to mess a bit with the RAM memory to see how everything works, that way it should be easier to find the data in the ROM...
