So, I drew out a challenging pipe maze (Like they had in SMB3) and when I finished, I looked over it and thought "DAMN!"
You see, I had the invisible coins like where in SMB3 you had to hit them to make a path and then come out on top of them by going through other pipes and going into the pipe across the invisible coin blocks. My problem is when you go in/out of secondary entrances/exits, they'll turn invisible again Any way to get past this besides taking out the invisible coins? (Custom blocks maybe?) You could use.
The movement pipes. Instead of screwing with entrances. You know. Also, pipe mazes suck. |

Are you talking about the SMB3 pipes from SMWcentral?

It's not the pipe mazes that suck....7-9 in SMB3 wasn't bad. It's the muncher/lakitu/balloon mazes that fail. An example would be Tubular in SMW

Originally posted by S.N.N. Agreed, in parts, just about anything that turns Mario from a machine of koopa death into a scared plumber is bad. Lakitu I could argue about but the balloon I'm with you one hundred percent. I can't stand that power-up. If I see it come out of a block I avoid it like the plague. Underwater mazes can be bad too, actually mazes in general suck. |

Nothing terribly wrong with a pipe theme (but for only a few levels), mazes generally aren't fun, unless it's a linear maze.
And Tubular was a b1tch the first time I played it .... I can beat it easily now, but still... |

I tried to download and use Mikeys SMB3 pipes (I got confused; the title screen would come up and then the screen would go black, but the music would continue playing.) Anyways, I worked around it with 'Small Mario Only,' 'Anti-poer-up,' and the'question mark block that gets rid of your item in your item box' custom blocks (the later was a pain in the ass to get to work right (as it was a ? block; and people would just avoid it) but I got it to work and so you HAVE to be small at certain points. Anyways, just for future reference, I had a few questions about Mikey's SMB3 pipes:
1. When you copy the pipes.bin to an empty bank in the game, do you insert or overwrite; and does it matter where it goes? 2. When you write to the 3 offsets (different 3 for if you have custom blocks in your game and if you don't) do you overwrite or insert (also about the last byte; do you use a calculator (in hex mode) and subtract 200 from the offset you pasted the file at, then divide the result by 8000 [that's what he did in his example])? 3. Can you use this with a hack that has the SMB3 music patch already in it? 4. Are there any easier to use SMB3 pipes? Also, is there ANY WAY to use a BG with Layer 2 objects (I think I saw it done in PITMK; not sure though)? |

What are you talking about son.
1. What. Put pipes.bin in your BlockTool folder and follow the instructions on Mikey's SMB3 pipes page to configure each pipe block correctly. Also be sure to patch the game with "pipes.ips" 2. I can't help you here, because I don't have the faintest idea of what you mean. 3. Why should there be any problem with it? 4. Use a SMB3 editor with an SMB3 rom. No. Edit: What you probably saw was a Layer 3 effect. (edited by LemonPancake on 06-28-06 01:05 AM) |

It's easy to use a background with layer two objects... Layer two just can't be interacted with...

I hate the pipe mazes where theres hundreds of pipes everywhere and you have to find an exit by entering diffrent pipes that lead to diffrent places..It just gets too annoying.

I love pipe mazes! …Which is a bit odd, since I don’t like world 7 of SMB3….
…I think cory21391 is confusing mikeyk’s pipes with FuSoYa’s. |

Oh
kay, I just downloaded it from SMW central. It seems I must've had an older version of it (I found it on one of my old CDs) I'll try to get the newer downloaded one to work. |

Originally posted by Serpent Well, I do. All variations of the pipe maze just totally suck. It's a lot of running around going through nearly identical exits doing none of the good things Mario games are known for such as raining down firey death on your weakling Goomba inferiors or making jumps over cleverly placed lava pits. Hey, that's right. Mario is fun. I.... forgot. In the midst of crap hacks and SMW's poorly designed powerup system and enemies, I couldn't remember that classic SMB-style Mario levels are fun. Shame on me. I should make some old-style level hack. I can't very well leave SMW hacking without making at least one good hack, can I? It'd be a cheat. |
