Is the new SuperPass essentially the PassMes just without the specific save format and everything?

If you have to put a DS card into it and put it in slot 1, it's a PassMe. If it just slides into slot 1 on its own, it's a NoPass. Or it could be some bizarre new device.

arent you mixing up something here?
to my understanding, superpass is the pc client software needed to upload games to the sd-card.
superkey is the device that goes into the ds slot and redirects access to the gba slot.
as HM pointed out, the difference between the superkey and previous passme adapters is that it looks like a regular ds cart and doesnt need to have an original game plugged in.

cant tell you how good it works cause im using the m3 product line (m3 sd adapter + passcard v3) and although these tend to be a bit pricey compared to the supercard stuff, it works absolutely fine, didnt have any problems so far.(the m3s gba save compatiblity is said to be better than that of the supercard, but i cant verify this. friend of mine owns a supercard, but doesnt use it for anything but ds)

both of these nopass adapters should work identically, though.

newer ds units such as the ds lite are said to not work with the old passme adapters, so you'd need to use either the cumbersome passkey 2 or one of the aforementioned nopass adapters such as the superkey or the passcard v3.

SuperPass, SuperPass2 and SuperKey are the names of variants for PassMe, PassMe2 and NoPass, respectively. As far as I know, SuperKey supports sleep mode, while on MML, sleep mode doesn't work. I dunno about the other NoPass variants.

Not necessarily, there have been PassMe clones in the past that have some official cartridge taken apart and become a permanent part of the device. They're illegal in most countries, are not NoPass devices (though mistaken as such), and usually one of those no-name pirate groups trying to make a quick buck.
