"I'll do that for you."

Just as Snipes was about to open the door, Biggs removed it for him. What was left of the fat man flew across the room, and impacted the opposite wall with a thud. From behind the doroway came an ominus growl, as a Troll came through wielding a large club.

Troll: "Unga... UNGAAAAAA!"

Looking around, the firs tperson the troll spotted was Kirbynitem, and the troll immediately charged him.

Kirbynite: Hm? Oh, would you like to play, Mr. Troll?

The pink creature hopped off his seat and bounced towards the charging troll. All of a sudden, Kirbynite exploded into a cloud of smoke, which the troll ran into. Nothing went through the smoke except the sound of flesh being torn.

"If it ain't dead from this stab, it's atleast heavily paralyzed from mah poisoned blade here."

The smoke quickly cleared up, revealing a dark haired ponytailed man, about six feet tall, standing infront of the troll with a broadsword through the creature's chest. The man was dressed in blue jeans, a white tank top, and a blue jacket that had its sleeves rolled up all the way to the shoulders. He also had a pair of black gloves and black steel-toed boots.

He pulled his sword out of the troll, causing the large beast to topple backwards from the force. He then walked over to the desk, scratching his stubble for a moment, and picked up a sheet. The man plopped himself down onto an empty chair, and pulled his ten gallon hat a bit up so that everyone can see his face.

Kirby: Soo... Can we blow stuff up, too?

WTF? My post disapeared...
OOC: Heh, one of my favorite teacher's first names was kirby... And his classroom was Kirby's Dream Land. LOL:

"Wha?"

Staring a bit at Kirby, Sineps shook his head. Jeez, where the hell had THAT one come from?

"Well, I have to say that's not something I've seen before. And, I've seen a lot. Nice kill, not often I meet someone who code it with finesse, most people I know just outright blast their targets."

Still shaking his head, snipes walked over and picked up one of the forms Salaheem had put on the table. Scanning it, Snipes asked,

"Salaheem, are there any catches we ought to know about? I don't like being roped into things when I don't want to be. That happened on my last job, and the results weren't pretty."

As Snipes eased himself into a chair, anyone looking would have found the equivalent of a small armoury on Snipe's belt. H.E. Grenades, smoke grenades, two pistols, a large sword (a wide sheath that went from Snipe's right shoulder to his left thigh), and what seemed to be several ammo packs, all clipped ('cept the sword) onto his belt.

Outside, the explosions continued, but they were a little farther away now.

If Salaheem was concerned, she was doing a good job hiding it.

Salaheem : (Trolls in the Commercial Ward... I hope that was an isolated occurance... why would one even be this deep in Whitegate though, the Candescence isn't even anywhere near here... unless...) If you... haven't managed to notice... there is a lot of stuff blowing up around here, and plenty more being arranged to be blown up...

Ultimanium : There's obviously a lot of shooting/stabbing/bludgeoning going on here, do make sure you can defend yourself... it also helps to have a good head on your shou-

Salaheem : Ahem.

Ultimanium : But you-

Salaheem : Yeah, anyways, what he said. We take missions appointed by the Empire, most having to do with spying and sabotauge of whichever factions are dumb enough to try to breach the gates. All mercenary companies in Whitegate report to a central commissions office in the eastern district, near the Imperial Ward, where assignments are signed up for and doled out. If you were gonna ask about the company dormitories, they got blown up last week. Sorry. We salvaged some lockers, but some of those got stolen by looters, and...

As Salaheem continued to talk, Ultimanium was already sitting at a table nearby, plugging a laptop into the wall.

Salaheem : OH! And one more thing... I don't know if Ulty's told you this or not...

Ultimanium : YOU KEEP INTERRUPTI-

Salaheem : But he's actually an insider for the city-state Magnopolis. Told me he's with some kinda news crew. If you could keep quiet about that that'd be good, I dunno how the Empire deals with that sorta stuff. *crosses a finger across her throat*

"I'll keep that in mind. I shouldn't need to worry about a weapon though... I've got lots "

Signing his name down on the contract, Snipes smiled, walked away from Salaheem's desk, and pulled out his sword. As he did so, the edges of it flashed, then began emanating a pruple light.

Oh, and so you all know... NEVER, EVER touch the purple edges of my sword. Unless you WANT to get an arm cut off. And... I'll keep quite for 'Ulty'."

Just as Kirby finished signing his paper..

Kirby: I've got what I need to survive.. But I don't mind getting some extra stuff here and there. Do we get something like a "Merchant of Menace" or something? And I'll keep quiet about Ultimanium. With how my life has turned out, I don't have much need to worry or care about reporters. Uh.. I don't mean that as a bad thing towards you, Ultimanium.

Before anyone could have actually said anything about him, however, Ultimanium had already vanished. Salaheem finished digging in the bottom shelf of the cabinet, standing again with a small white sack in her hand.

Salaheem : And here are your... Janitor and Snipes have relieved us of their presence, have they... well, someone try to give Snipes his badge later.

Salaheem unfurled her other fist, dropping three maroon-silver tags onto the desk. Each had a leaping fish emblazoned on its center.

Salaheem : These'll be your Private Second Class badges, dearies. I'll be tracking your progress and upgrading your rank as you make a name for me... and yourselves, of course. If you do your jobs properly I might change you from a fish to something a little more menacing, like, a butterfly. As well... think of this as a signing bonus...

Salaheem dumped the bag on the desk, creating a heaping pile of bronze coins. They were all worn beyond belief, though the serpent carving in the centers remained intact. The dates on most of them were pre-1900.

Salaheem : People in these parts are finicky about bartering, and legal tender from other countries is rarely accepted, or even convertable for that matter. Divide this up amongst yourselves, you'll most likely be needing it. Aaaaanyways... I believe that's all I have to say for the moment. I do happen to have a small task that needs doing right now, whether you'd like to tackle that immediately or have some time to get used to Aht Uhrgan life is your decision...

Meanwhile...

??? : You're late.

Ultimanium : I had to relocate. The line in my last building was being tapped.

??? : Then the Empire is already getting suspicious.

Ultimanium : Well, they did just lift travel bans a week ago. And as far as I know, the no-fly zone hasn't been removed. In either case, the mercenary groups would be a good place for them to look for shady characters.

??? : Anyways, shall we begin?

Ultimanium : Is everyone gathered?

??? : Waiting on you.

Elsewhere, a tower stuck high out of a busy city. People were all seated at a table in a large conference room on the 55th floor. At the head was a dark-skinned man with neatly combed yellow hair. Slowly he stood.

Magnus : All rise. Head of Magnopolis research and development, Balkan Kovosochek. Head of defense, Aiegland. We are gathered here today to discuss the growing concern over the recently re-opened Empire of Aht Uhrgan. As many of you may know, the empire of Aht Uhrgan closed its borders to neighboring countries just over 100 years ago over global criticism over its civil wars with the country of Alhazeen. However... an official statement from the current Empress, a member of the family of Serpentine, has lured able-bodied soldiers and mercenaries to the land with the promise of jobs. Many people have followed in their wake to accomodate these people. While we welcome their reentry into the global community, this has also given us the chance to see what affairs that Aht Uhrgan has enveloped itself in.

An enormous man, bald and with a big bushy brown mustache, nearly tore his dull-green suit apart with his muscles as he stood.

Aiegland : Aht Uhrgan continues to do battle with rampant barbarian factions. Intelligence indicates that the entire nation is in a bloodbath, all people fighting to gain control over a power called the Astral Candescence. Our current secret agent in Aht Uhrgan, Ultimanium, has revealed its powers to us, and that is another discussion entirely. But, we have established more knowledge of the artifact over time, and we have found disturbing facts about its actual ownership... while it does have a psycholgically possessing effect, we are continuing to grow doubts about its true use...

Another person in a white coat stood, rubbing his frizzled red hair.

Balkan : ...we have obtained the design of the Al Zahbi bastion, where the main gates of the Whitegate city are. The AC, if I may call it that, is stored within the catacombs of a building known as the Hall of Binding, as seen on this map. As you may presume, this is nowhere near the commercial sector of the city, or even the center of the city itself. Yet still the hired grunts and what remains of the military continues to throw themselves at whatever threats gun for that area of the town.

A blue hologram of Ultimanium sprung up from the center of the table.

Ultimanium : It's almost like... they WANT the beastmen to get the AC. And it wouldn't be just for the sole purpose of getting rid of it, because the addicting effect would cause them to charge right back after it in retaliation.

Balkan : Exactly. Which means it has some secondary properties that we're not aware of.

Magnus : Ultimanium will continue investigating the society of Aht Uhrgan under the guise of a mercenary of the guild Salaheem's Sentinels. The AC is having a devastating effect on the well-being of Aht Uhrgan, and we cannot intervene directly without violating agreements set out by the Empire regarding free travel in and out of the country. We must find what is causing the AC's mental effects... or, I may be a little paranoid here... whether or not it is a weapon that could affect neighboring countries, or even our own.

Ultimanium : I'll see what I can come up with. I'll be talking to you all later, I'm already losing my signal.

Magnus : Take care.

Disconnecting...

Kirby: Quite honestly, I'd like to go find myself something that's strong enough to use gravitic warp to transport a letter to my wife. I'd like to steer her clear away from this place, since she's sure to investigate my tracks after not hearing a word from me. Don't get me wrong, she's a great bounty hunter so I don't have to worry about her getting in a tough spot... But I get the feeling that I might need her to be away from this place incase I get a little too.. drawn in....

Kirby reached for two badges, and tossed one inside his Rex Wheelie, which now seems to look like a mobile lunch box compared to Kirby's new size and shape. He also scooped up some money, but it didn't seem to be enough to make up a full third of it.

Kirby: 'M sure I've got enough charm in me to go by with just this much.... Say, Cat Lady, you happen to know if there's a hardware shop around here, or do you know if there's a device capable of gravitic warp in those lockers?

While all that haed been going on inside the Sentinel's main building, Snipes had been outside, looking for hte source of the banging. Well, he found it.

One very large, very mean-looking robot walker and come into the Commercial sector, and was stopming around quite nastily.

"Oh mother of..."

Snieps gasped. Thinking for a second, Snipes hid behind a section of wall so the robot would see him, and thought about how best to take the behemoth down. Thinking for a bit, Snipes pulled out one of his pistols, est it to power mode, and fired.

Very little happened. The shot hit the robot, but all that was left in it's place was a tiny little hole... And one now very pissed off robot.

"Hmm... Shots don't work very well."

rambled Snipes, looking at the depleted energy gauge on his pistol. Calling out tot the sentinel's office, Snipes yelled,

"Hey! There's a very large, very ANGRY robot out here! Any help?

Salaheem : ...wife...

Salaheem drummed her fingers on the desk, frowning as she glanced over to what remained of the battered lockers in the corner. She walked over to it, swinging out a massive ring of keys and quickly jimmied one of the top ones open. Inside, a photo was taped facing inwards as to not be seen. Salaheem reached deeper inside, dragging out an object that looked like a cross between a bazooka and a microwave oven. She lugged it back over to the table and dropped it with a crash.

Salaheem : This was left here by an earlier employee... It's a encrypted matter transmitter. It's a pretty ancient model, so I can't guarantee that it'll reach wherever you're intending... ugh, what the hell is all that noi...

Snipes yelled as a bipedal mech marched straight across the window. It's giant, golem-like body was held up by limbs that almost looked like one hand and one leg, with its gauss gun stuck outside of its head. It slowly lumbered to a stop as a bullet tore into it, turning around to face its challenger. Its head craned up, revealing a set of blue eyes...

"Jeez... there's no way I can take that down myself..."

Shaking his head slightly, Snieps unclipped a smoke grenade from his belt, and set it to impact detonation. Taking careful aim, Snipes lofted the grenade Directly into the 'eyes' of the Robot, blanking out it's vision with a large pool of smoke.

Ultimanium : Guys, did you get your briefing fr... WHOA mama.

Ultimanium stepped back into the plaza in time to get swept over by a wave of inky black smoke, which thinned out slightly around him as he pressed forward.

Ultimanium : That's... the robot that attacked us earlier... but I'm pretty sure we wrecked it's limbs, why is it still moving around?

The Bravura slowly craned up, standing straight on its two 'feet'. It swayed slightly, attempting to shake its sensors back into alignment. The limbs holding it up were very visibly soldered near the top, but still rocked back and forth as if they were hinged.

Ultimanium : Who could've repaired it in that short a time?

The mech's eyes went dim for a moment. Slowly they turned a dull red.

AI routine check indicates a pattern of attack.
Ultraviolet sensors disabled twice by injection of dust.
Lubrication systems operating 150% in ultraviolet sensor region.
Switching to infrared targeting...

It crouched down again, spinning with surprising speed back to Snipes. Several small compartments opened on its shoulders with loud clicks, and fired off a cluster of bottle rockets in his direction.

Kirby: Light the hand, concentrate on the bullet, and fire.

Kirby stood by the window, holding out a red and silver Desert Eagle. He wasted no time in pulling the trigger, which fired a beam of light at the bottle rockets. The beam struck a rocket, setting it off, and should've taken out of the rest of the rockets.

Meanwhile, Rex Wheelie skidded to a halt besides Snipes. It opened a compartment which had the badge that was meant for Snipes.

Quint thought to himself outloud for a moment...

Quint: Hmm... The Eclipse Cannon's energy isn't refilled yet... Pie Slinger and Phantom Mode wouldn't do any good... Guess I'll just have to use the X-buster.

Quint's right arm transformed into its buster mode. He then stepped out the door and fired a large blue blast of plasma, followed by two smaller yellow plasma pellets. They were aimed not at the rockets, or the robot's eyes, but at the recently welded portions of its limbs.

After getting ready to dodge the rockets, Snieps was relieved to see his teamates were now there to help. Then, the Rex wheelie rolled up and gave Snipes his badge. Taking it, Snipes told the Wheelie to head back to Kirbynite, and he would cover it if need be. Taking careful aim, Snipes lofted a second grenade, this time High Explosive, into the robot, but missed it's head by a bit. The grenade hit the robot's neck, and tore open a hole right below the robot's 'chin'.

The blow to the neck send the upper body of the mech reeling back. As it attempted to regain its stance, however, one of Quint's blasts tore through the weakened leg struts, letting it lose balance on its remaining leg and crash to the ground on its back. Ultimanium rushed up, flashing out a Ki blade from his wrist and driving it deep into the gash in its throat.

Ultimanium : Gotch-eeeRRHH!!

...and Ultimanium was hurled backwards again as a pulse of electricity was aimed out of the hole, blasting him back a good 50 feet into the side of the stairs. The robot's leg slung itself up and slammed its 'foot' back into the ground, sending out a shockwave around it that propelled the entire machine into the air. It landed upon the top level, barely managing to keep itself standing on the single appendage.

Sensor control damaged. 85% health.
Structural weakness detected: physical legs affect overall agility when damaged. System replacement recommended.
Upper limb armor requires reinforcing. Shock absorbing underlay ordered.
Return drive operational...

The robot hummed as a black void very slowly began to absorb it.

Ultimanium : ...why is it babbling that to itself? And returning, returning to where? If you understand us so well, you can sure as hell tell us...

...

Al...t...

A hole in the air sucked the mech away as revolver fire filled the air. Salaheem stood on the opposing balcony, emptying the shells from the gun - even larger than Ultimanium's.

Salaheem : Sorry about that, folks... I had a hell of a time telling the Immortals that their little magic impenetrable wall was down... you guys okay?
