Yay iPod!
The last time I did a sleep deprivation experiment was four years ago, and I posted it on the Random Insanity board of GameFAQs. I wanted to go for 48 hours, but I hosed out right around 36. I remember that time slowed to a crawl and I felt like dead dog crap, and I couldn't do anything at all without falling asleep. I was falling asleep in front of Symphony of the Night, and I tried watching TV and passed out during that. Maybe I should have gone out for a walk, but like I said, I felt like crud. Oddly enough, when I was in college, 36 hours was nothing to me. I could do it every now and then without trouble as long as I allowed about 12 hours of sleep afterwards. My record was something like 38, and near the end of that, I was happily playing broomball and then I only slept a normal amount right afterward. Eh, maybe my system just isn't that resilient anymore. But I am on vacation (and people are going to be hyper and up for a while - whereas when I tried staying up for two days that other time, I was all by myself), so it's worth a shot. |

The worst I've ever done isn't even a full day... 7 AM to 4 AM. I was dragging it near the end of that paltry 21 hours, so I think I'd need a little bit of... training if I was to ever pass the 24-hour mark.

Probably about 24 hours, a few years ago... My friends birthday party, I was up all night playing N64.

In my experience, it helps if you got up at a normal "early" time (sometime in the morning that seems normal to you) at the start of the no-sleep-a-thon, and it REALLY helps if you have something to do, especially something social. The first time I stayed up all night was when I was having fun playing pool until the wee hours of the morn, and I realized there wasn't any point into going to bed then.
Also, people have varying sleep requirements, so maybe you're just not predisposed to fucked-up sleep schedules. I wouldn't worry about training for it, though. |

Naw, I can last a lot longer now... 'cept that I have to sleep because I can't do anything else when my parents are asleep.
I could probably make 36 hours if I tried. |

On a side note, XKeeper needs to stop having fun with banners...
And... random number generators |

That banner is indeed hypnotizing. I just hope it doesn't hypnotize me into taking a nosedive on this laptop. It looks like the Mario Party game will be going for a while, though, so I'll be pretty well distracted...

I really hope nobody with light-pattern sensitivity they warn about in video game manuals come here... Though I guess if they did have it, they wouldn't play games at all, so they'd have no reason to come here. Meh...

My personal favorite No-Sleep-a-Thon story is probably that of old school gamer Todd Rogers, who stayed up for ~85 hours playing Journey: Escape.
Todd Rogers is apparently an interesting fellow besides his aptitude at old school games as well. |
