See, everyone's interest in Final Fantasy always confused the hell out of me. I guess I'm just the only one who doesn't like dull sequences in which you do the same thing over and over again throughout a game with very little ever changing...

So guys, I got 71 emails, and not a single one is actually to me. Just.. junk.

Isn't that depressing.

My junk mail's gone down like crazy over the past several months.

On the flip side, I get a trickle of e-mail and not much of it is important. So yeah. :\

I feel the same way. FF is boring.

I like repetitive games if the repetitive stuff is addictive to me. Example: Dark Cloud. Yeah, so there is a lot of "crawl the randomly generated dungeon with the unexciting layout" involved, but I put hours into the game because for various reasons, all the dungeon crawling was CRACK. You'd find parts of items that you had to assemble and buttloads of treasure chests, some of which contained awesome schwag to upgrade your weapons with, and the entire process was soothing and hypnotic on some level, so I would happily park myself in front of the TV trolling for stuff. Dark Cloud 2 had more varied gameplay, but it did not grab me like that, probably because there was no hypnotic process of farming weapon upgrade material. Instead, there was a minigame that randomly varied in difficulty from "joke" to "nigh impossible", and you had to clear the entire dungeon floor to play, and you could only win once per dungeon floor. (Well, you could win again, but you'd get a crap treasure.)

On the topic of the FF games...I loved Final Fantasy IV back in the day. The US version was actually designed to keep farming and leveling requirements to a minimum, which probably helped hold my interest because I could progress quickly. There were parts where I farmed to make my life easier later, but that was a soothing hypnotic process that I didn't mind. Then again, I enjoyed other RPG's that required leveling, as long as the difficulty curve seemed fair and I wasn't getting constantly cornholed. (Case in point - I LOOOOOVED Dragon Warrior III. II, on the other hand...ugh.) I put many hours into Final Fantasy Tactics because I loved the battle engine and there were so many jobs to develop and skills to earn, and though the game was rather difficult and it took a while to build up your characters, it felt like you were making progress. (In contrast, I thought I would love Phantom Brave, but I just couldn't get into it because I felt like I was treading water. No matter how well I tried to battle, I could barely save any money after having to go heal all my guys. I heard it gets better later, though.)

What happened to you and La Pucelle anyways? You end up beating that?

I think I only had one thing left in it and it wasn't that much of an issue to get.

You were caught in a time warp and spent the last several days in 1993?

If I recall, Transport tycoon, the orginal game was released 1995. There might been a early demo in 1994.

And oh, Transport tycoon deluxe was released in 1997-1998 something... and the version i'm using is just a few months old.

I love how Open source projects revive old games.

LOVE IT

Oh... about FF. Ironically, of all RPG games I played... I could never get into FF. Go figure.

I got to a point with a poopyheaded gargoyle boss (at the end of some sort of forest area, I think), and I had to level up my guys a buttload more to have a better chance, and I got busy with costuming stuff and then pretty much forgot about it. It doesn't help that I have game ADD. No offense meant to people with actual deficit disorders, but whenever something new that I want to play comes along, I'm all ZOMG SHINY and I have to start up a game. I don't necessarily even care about beating games any more. I just like to play for a while until I either finish or don't feel like expending the effort necessary to get past some really difficult part. This really is not as much of a waste as it may seem at first glance. We like to maintain a nifty library of games (we don't ever sell them back), and we also tend to keep saved data around for ages, so sometimes I get back to something I put aside long ago, and I never complain about having a nice selection of cool games around. Even if we don't get a lot of use out of certain games, friends will occasionally want to play them, and we can trust our friends not to be idiots with our stuff, so we don't mind at all.

Anyway...I did enjoy La Pucelle up to that point, but I forgot what I was doing and I wasn't TOO far into it, so I think I should just start a new game. And this time, I know to level like mad and kill that giant whale creature thingy to get the rare item that you can't obtain otherwise.

Angel Slippers. +3 Mv. Not really the great in comparison to Warp Engine, which teleports you anywhere on a turn. Not to mention, you can de-equip it and give it to someone else and have them use it then as well, if need be.

Warp Engine, however, is a pain in the ass to get (beat DEI 300 and kill at least 1 level 500). The time I did it was down to the wire. I will say that when you do it, it will allow you to have some fuuuun with it...along with Prier being a Demon Lord. Demon Overlord isn't that far off afterwards and I didn't get it but I was too lazy as well. Had her up to level 800 or so with 90 hours and then my save died with my memcard. Oh well.

Be nice if they gave us the New Game+ version of it in the states. Doubt it ever comes here.

Wow...now that's a high-powered item.

And I wish I would have seen Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire earlier while people were still paying attention to its thread in the entertainment forum. Bah. I post a detailed opinion and nobody's around to read it. And I also need to find and watch Saw.

Yay...it's another winter storm. We just had one come through last week. At least I got to go home from work early before the roads went from bleh to sux. And at least I'm going to make Rando help me shovel. Last time, it took me forty minutes to clear the driveway myself. It's good exercise, but my back was tired for a day afterward.

How do you shovel snow efficiently, anyway? I'm pretty strong, but I just can't haul snow as fast as other people seem to be able to. And my back was tired for a day afterward. (I know to use my leg power to shovel, but the lower back muscles still have to act as stabilizers, and all that shoveling just fried them.) I know the obvious answer is "buy a snow blower", but I'm not really interested in spending all that money on something we'd only use a handful of times every year.

Put a lot of salt on the snow. Watery slush should just be swept for the most part. Then again I haven't seen snow in ages.
