[rolls eyes] Obviously, they've never had something called fun without abandon. Or excessive cases of boredom, for that matter.

Oh well.

Hell, even PDP (even with its agonizing, ear-splitting sound effects) would've been better.

A pity this game was deflavorized so much.

And I play neither of those games. Puzzle games arenīt exactly my favorites.

Well, if you donīt count Bomberman, that is.

most puzzle games are associated with tetris style stuff (falling pieces etc). are there any other types of puzzle games that do not do that--like that kata game for PS2?

One that comes to mind is Denki Blocks. Yes, it still involves blocks, but find the ROM and try it, and you'll see that it's hardly the same as tetris, or another game of the sort Back when I still had the ROM on our computer, I could only beat the first two or so groups, and that was with a walkthrough As the titles of some of the reviews say, it's mind-bendingly maddening (to use that phrase) I could say that I owe the frustration to Colin, as he mentioned it in one of his posts before the board got restarted, and it sounded interesting enough that I wanted to take a look at it.

There's bound to be others that aren't like Tetris (or games like it), but that's just one I could think of

I'm playing Dynasty Warriors 5: Xtreme Legends, which is an addon to DW5 that can function as a standalone game. You can unlock all the items from DW5 within XL, but I think it works best as an expansion because you can load up all the DW5 level data (which is a very good thing, as there aren't very many stages in XL, and maxing out all the people would get really boring really quickly if you were limited to those) and also keep any items, weapons, and character experience you got while playing DW5. So I started with pretty much everyone maxed out already.

My favorite aspect of XL is Destiny Mode, where you start as a peon with only a 2-hit combo and work your way up to be as strong as a general. You play through stages under a commander and earn points to buy more abilities. At the end, you have a character with a good amount of attack and defense and (assuming you did well) a nice high-level weapon, and you can save them as a created character and continue to have fun with them. The stage flow can get cheap at times (it is no fun having to help both the main camp and your commander when they're on opposite sides of the board and you don't have a horse...blargh), but luckily there are ways to out-cheap the game. Namely, there's a skill you can buy which rains arrows down on the enemy as you attack, and you can get another skill to increase the strength of the arrows. That = TEH PWN. You can also BURNINATE enemy bases, which is quite fun as well.

Interesting, Rydain... I was considering getting my brother Dynasty Warriors 5 and DW5:XL for X-Mas, too, though I decided to get something else instead. Ah, well...
