All I know is that there still hasn't been a release date for the US, only for Japan.

I'm going to get a DS Lite too and I'll trade my old DS for it.

Oh, and for the cost, I'm assuming it's going to be the same price as when the original DS came out.

No idea yet. It costs around $140-150 in Japan if that's any indication. It MIGHT be out in time for your birthday but that's definitely not a given. The North American release date isn't final yet.

Hmm. Well my birthday is in mid April. If it's out by then, should I get it? I don't know what the difference is, besides the size and weight. Are there other differences? I don't really care which one I have, I just want a DS really really bad.
A DS now is about $130 from what I've seen, so if the lite is only $10 more... I'd go for it.

Size, weight, different brightness levels, a few other tweaks... still plays the same games though. It's entirely your call although the Japanese can't wait at all since they're sold out of DS systems there. Nintendo even had to APOLOGIZE because of it. :O

Generally, I think that at some levels it may be worth it to wait until the "second generation" of Nintendo portable systems, even if just following from the example of the Gameboy Advance --> SP, and now the DS --> Lite. Basically, if there are any problems with the first one, they'll be corrected, and you'll get a superior system for about the same price...only problem is you have to wait a bit...but when you do, there's a huge library of games already released!
