It's rather interesting to watch such a thread develop. I was reading through a few pages and not exactly sure what the point was, only to realize that to some extent there isn't one. Sometimes it takes a little while to get one's bearings, I guess.

and 180 cm would be about 5'10, I think.

I don't know, the metric system, while in some sense more sensible, has always made me a bit wary, though likely just because I grew up on the English system (which, ironically, the English don't use now). And then there was metric time, which never caught on...
