Meh, I played Pokemon when I was in school, rather than Yu-Gi-Oh. I was quite good at it too, eventually to the point where I got bored because nobody gave me a challenge (my strong basics kept wiping out their feeble evolution requireds). | |||

The restrictions don't come in the manual. (Not in the ones that come with the decks, not in the old ones)
The limitations and restrictions normally came from upgraded rules that were set by whoever does it. (Official people, mind you) I know this because once, I was going to enter a tournament and found about a change in rules, went home changed my deck, came back awhile later. New restrictions. Repeat process. Ah, yes. The fun. And no, that wasn't sarcasm. It actually was fun. To change my deck concept and such. Hell. I never used a Pot of Greed. Never. |

Warning: Wall of Text ahead.
Stylish Alastor: Stylish Alastor: I challenge you to a duel (unimportant stuff) RF MarioMaster: Okay Stylish Alastor: Can I use banned cards? RF MarioMaster: That depends. Which ones? Stylish Alastor: Just... Magical Scientist, Graceful Charity, Pot of Greed, Harpie's Feather Duster, and Painful Choice. RF MarioMaster: Pot of Greed is a cheater. ;; Everything except him Stylish Alastor: Fine. Stylish Alastor: I'll replace it with dragged down into the grave. RF MarioMaster: Alright, lets start Stylish Alastor: You may make the first move. RF MarioMaster: I place two trap cards face down and summon (Hold on lemme grab my old book of names) RF MarioMaster: One monster face-down in defence mode Stylish Alastor: Alright. Stylish Alastor: Will that be it? RF MarioMaster: Yes RF MarioMaster: Have at me Stylish Alastor: Hmm. Stylish Alastor: I special summon Gilasaurus from my hand. RF MarioMaster: (Please provide stats) RF MarioMaster: (I forget) Stylish Alastor: Level 3, 1400/400, you may treat the normal summon of this card as a special summon, if you select special summon your opponent can special summon a monster card from their graveyard. Stylish Alastor: You don't have any monsters in your graveyard, though. Stylish Alastor: Next, I play the spell card, Heavy Storm. RF MarioMaster: Damn you Stylish Alastor: I play the spell card, Monster Gate. Stylish Alastor: I tribute Gilasaurus to pick up cards from my deck until I get to a monster card, which is special summoned to the field. The rest are sent to the graveyard. RF MarioMaster: Alright Stylish Alastor: Last Will. Stylish Alastor: Magical Mallet. Stylish Alastor: Reload. Stylish Alastor: Card Destruction. Stylish Alastor: Toon Table of Contents. Stylish Alastor: Harpie's Feather Duster. Stylish Alastor: Reasoning. Stylish Alastor: Dark Magician of Chaos. RF MarioMaster: ...Okay Stylish Alastor: Level 8, 2800/2600, when it's normal summoned or special summoned successfully I can add a spell card from my grave to my hand, a monster destroyed by it as a result of battle is removed from play instead of being sent to the graveyard. Stylish Alastor: Since it was special summoned, I get Last Will from my grave. Stylish Alastor: My hand here is mostly worthless, so I'll play Magical Mallet. Stylish Alastor: It lets me take any amount of cards in my hand and add them back to my deck, shuffle my deck, and then draw the amount of cards added. RF MarioMaster: okay Stylish Alastor: I add two to my deck, so I draw two cards. Stylish Alastor: I play the spell card, Graceful Charity. Stylish Alastor: I draw three cards, then pick two cards from my hand and discard them. RF MarioMaster: ok Stylish Alastor: I'll discard Magical Mallet and Reasoning. Stylish Alastor: I play Reasoning. Stylish Alastor: It's kinda like Monster Gate, but I don't tribute; instead, you call a monster card level, and if that's the level of the monster, then that monster is sent to the grave instead of being special summoned. RF MarioMaster: ok Stylish Alastor: So pick a level. RF MarioMaster: 4 Stylish Alastor: Alright. Stylish Alastor: Premature Burial. Stylish Alastor: Magical Scientist. Stylish Alastor: Magical Scientist is level 1, not level 4, so it's special summoned. Stylish Alastor: I play the spell card Last Will. Stylish Alastor: As a monster of mine - Gilasaurus - was sent to the grave from the field this turn, I can special summon a monster from my deck with 1500 attack or less. Stylish Alastor: The card I select is Catapult Turtle. RF MarioMaster: ok Stylish Alastor: By the effect of Magical Scientist, I pay 1000 life points twice to special summon two copies of Dark Blade the Dragon Knight from my fusion deck. I have 6000 life points, and you have 8000. Stylish Alastor: Dark Blade the Dragon Knight is 2200/1500. RF MarioMaster: okay Stylish Alastor: I tribute them both with Catapult Turtle's effect to deal half their attack points as damage to you. 6000/5800 Stylish Alastor: I tribute Dark Magician of Chaos. Stylish Alastor: 6000/4400 Stylish Alastor: I pay 300 life points to special summon three copies of Dark Flare Knight. Stylish Alastor: 3000. Stylish Alastor: sorry. Stylish Alastor: I tribute them all. Stylish Alastor: 3000/1100 Stylish Alastor: I special summon another Dark Blade the Dragon Knight. I tribute it. Stylish Alastor: 2000/0. I win. RF MarioMaster: I didn't do anything.;; Stylish Alastor: That's the idea, yeah. |

Well, yeah, I don't duel very much. |

To be fair, the only experience I have with the card game is through Duel Academy for the GBA, which is probably the best Yu-Gi-Oh title released for the system since it actually bothers with a tutorial and all. :\
See, THAT AIM log was tremendous. But what would you have done if you couldn't use banned cards? |

That was just Scientist FTK. By far the most stylish FTK (first turn kill) is the Cookie Jar FTK, which basically sends the opponent's deck to the graveyard, so they lose when they try to draw during their first turn.
The only FTK legal in the current format, though, is the Last Turn FTK, which requires three combo pieces, two of which are traps, one of which is semilimited, which makes it much harder to pull off than other FTKs. The cards involved are these: Jowgen the Spiritualist Spellcaster/Effect Light Level 3 200 attack 1300 defense Randomly discard 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy all Special Summoned monsters on the field. In addition, as long as this card remains face-up on the field, no monsters can be Special Summoned. Note: Jowgen can be replaced with a few of other cards; it's simply the easiest to get out since it has no summoning restrictions. A common substitute is The Last Warrior from Another Planet. Wall of Revealing Light Continuous Trap Card When you activate this card, pay any multiple of 1000 Life Points. None of your opponent's monsters with ATK equal to or less than the Life Points you paid can attack. Note: Wall of Revealing Light can be replaced with a very small selection of other cards; it's simply the most friendly to use. Last Turn Normal Trap Card This card can only be activated during your opponent's turn when your Life Points are 1000 or less. Select 1 monster on your side of the field and send all other cards on the field and in their respective owners' hands to their respective Graveyards. After that, your opponent selects and Special Summons 1 monster from his/her Deck in face-up Attack Position and attacks your selected monster. (Any Battle Damage from this battle is treated as 0.) The player whose monster remains alone on the field at the End Phase of this turn wins the Duel. Any other case results in a DRAW. Now see if you can't find how to use those three cards for a more or less guaranteed win. |

I've had some fun experiences with Last-Turn.
One time I had used Lava Golem on them and they pulled out Jowgen and used Last Turn. Know what I used? Gora Turtle. Another time I used Spirit Reaper. He was so annoyed. |

@Kyouji: Well yes, but can you pull of such a victory in Duelists of Roses? (edited by Riku on 02-17-06 11:30 PM) |

I suppose he was also an idiot, since Jowgen prevents Special Summoning. That's the thing; Pay your way down to Last Turn being useable, use it, they can't special summon so your monster is the only thing in play, so you win at the end phase since that's what last turn says.
Edit: That was to Peardian. Riku, Duelist of the Roses ia very different game from regular Yugioh. It's also a game I've never played. (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 02-17-06 11:32 PM) |
