Alright, I'm on my mom's laptop because mine is in need of some ol' TLC. Well, my mom's is deciding to be suicidal now. Basically what has been happening is that it will not connect to the house's wireless network. The network is up and running as it always is...but the computer won't recognize it and will not connect to it. Also, the wireless light just won't come on (it is a Toshiba laptop and has a little indicator for wireless connectivity to the left of the keyboard). So, I can't use the wireless network in my house for whatever reason and therefore cannot get on the internet in my bedroom (mine has no cables so I can't plug in the computer). I was wondering if anyone round here would be able to give some pointers as to what I should do so I can sit on my ass late at night and watch youtube without bothering anyone.

is the wireless point broadcasting its name? if it doesn't broadcast, then of course you will never see the access point and must do a manual configuration by specifying the name specifically and providing other information.

that is the only thing I can think of under the assumption that the card works but can't sense your own access point.

How do I manually enter the access point?

edit:: nevermind, its not helping. I think it is the wireless card. The router is on and says that it is transmitting wireless. I can access the wireless on my sister's computer, but I can't get it on here.

rededit:: HE WHO SOLVES THIS PROBLEM GETS A GREAT PRIZE

Most laptops have a switch on the side or back to control the power to the wireless circuits on them. Is that on?

I can find no such switch.

edit:: I've gone into the router itself - from this computer - using the cable I have. So, I know the wireless is running 100%. It works on my sister's computer and my friend's laptop. However, I still cannot access our network at all. I don't quite know why. Does anyone have any ideas? Because that means it is the wireless card on this lap top. There is no visible switch.

edit2: the computer decided to recognize all the networks as ad-hoc for some f'd up reason. So I had to go and delete the profiles that decided to pop up randomly. Why it didn't detect the others is beyond me.
