I've had Mario Kart DS for about three days now, so I pop MKSC back in to see SMK-like karting on a handheld. It's almost as if I never played the thing all over again, I absolutely suck. I'm finding it hard again just to do the boost at the beginning of a track >_>

I used to play MKSC that I was practically as good as you could get, exploiting pretty much all the shortcuts, winning all the coins and star rankings in the cups. MKDS somehow erased that talent on the older game now. For example, I have a near-perfect time trial of Sky Garden (my favorite track); my old ghost beats me by about a minute now, falling off the edge and not doing turns correctly and missing the two giant shortcuts.

Yes, that was one thing I really didn't like about MKDS at first. The game handles very different than other Mario Kart games, so once you've got used to it, you suck at the rest.

That game isn't that fun for me.
The controls are weird, and I'm not used to 2D Mario Karts.
I have it, and beat it, but I still don't like it.

Same here, I have some magnificent ghosts on MKSC, but I went back to playing it after about 4 months of MKDS, and I was terrible!

I had problems too when I went back to Mario Kart: Super Circuit. The power boost at the start was the first problem. I thought that you were suppose to hold the A button before the race started to get the power boost like in Mario Kart DS but it didn't work in Mario Kart Super Circuit. I didn't realize until later that you had to wait till the final light to press the A button for the boost.

Also, I tried snaking since I'm so used to doing that a lot in Mario Kart DS and let's just say I crashed into plenty of walls.

I haven't been lucky enough to try this one yet but i'll probably be picking it up in a few weeks. From the vids. i've seen the game reminds me of MK 64 the most and that one was by far my fav. (Though anything is better then Double Dash imo) so i think i'll like it very much.

There should be a "DON'T ACT LIKE A MOD" picture as well.

But look at his name color - we already caught on to him.

The two giant shortcuts? But did you get the biggest one of all?? (long download, but worth it).

(old thread that was bumped, but I just had to add that; it breathes new life into it too)

I can barely boost in MKDS, so be happy that you can do SOMETHING.

And eh, practicing Super Circuit for a while will bring the skill back, you just have to adjust.

MKDS is easier than any other mario kart game, when you learn snakeing you can win any cup easy as fuck.. Snakeing is the only "hard" thing in MKDS but still it aint hard MKSC is my favorite mario kart game because its harder than the others.

I suck at 2D mario kart... from SNES to SC... its just horrible..

How ever I did place 4th in a local Mario Card DS tourney .. was kinda happy about that.
