Hmm... I actually feel up to getting drunk myself today. It might make me feel better about the incident last night in which I destroyed some cookware, suffered some smoke inhalation and now the house just WILL NOT SMELL RIGHT.

Basically, to a non-drinker, 8 drinks can be a lot, but to a regular drinker 8 is just starting to get buzzed. 16 isn't even THAT much, honestly. Alcohol works weird. You don't build up a tolerance to it in the chemical homeostasis sense, the same way that you build up a tolerance to cocaine or heroin (and thus get addicted). Instead, your body sorta learns how to manage higher levels of drunken-ness better, letting you drink more but requiring that you drink more in order to achieve the same feelings. This has its advantages (You can do lots of shots with strangers and earn bragging rights) and it's distadvantages (It sucks to down $10 of vodka just for all of it to come back up, when someone else is doing the same thing for $5). |

Not at all. Put it this way... 8 for me would likely be an invitation to worship at the porcelain throne. 
I know it has a lot to do with tolerance, build, and how fast you drink (obviously drinking 8 in an hour or two instead of 8 over the night's gonna be worse) but still. |

| Heh. I was hoping there would be a thread like this...or thinking of starting one.
One of my friends wanted to celebrate quitting her craptacular job. She decided she would be at the Darkhorse to see a cool local band. I went, thinking I'd have one drink and go home. I am now plastered off my ass yet still with it enough to fix my typoes. It's been a great night. When I get a new job, I will host a similar night. y helo thar drinkypoofs. |
