Thaddeus and myself have been working hard on the project lately, and I thought I'd make a post concering its status:

1: I've managed to fix all ASM related bugs but 5, with the help of Gavin's notes. Since Gavin has dropped out of the project, it seems, we may need outside assistance for these if I can't manage to do it myself. They are, however, non lethal bugs, and have no bearing on the gameplay itself; annoyances, really.

2: Map design is basically finalized, according to Thaddeus.

3: The battle system is set, but didn't turn out anything like the predicted calculations: However, since the stats are based on a gradient, increasing the Armor and Rifle stats should make it OK; the framework is laid, I just need to tweak it. Any balance issues will be ironed out in the final beta.

4: Aside from the ASM issues, I need to do some light dialogue work, finish the PSI effects, and rewrite the ending. This is all something that can be done in a day or two.

So.... Basically what I'm saying is that the hack will be released this summer, most definitely; how soon will be determined by how long the final beta will take to be beaten by the testers, and if we can resolve the last ASM problems.

p.s. I'm going to overhaul the woefully neglected DXOII page sometime soon with new screenshots, character descriptions, etc.

This is wonderful. I was perusing my old stuff yesterday, and I saw i had about 130MB of old DXOII media. I watched it all again and remembered how beautiful it looked. Then i listened to the NSF .

...the hack will be released this summer...

I've been dying to play this hack, I can't wait to play it when it's finished. The first game was good so I know this'll kick major ass.

I am looking forward to this hack's release. It's a good example that hard work and dedication really do pay off in the end. I hope someone will be able to help you with those last bugs, Sliver-X.

I had the pleasure of trying an old beta.

I love how it doesn't even feel like Final Fantasy anymore. This is good, as i think it's one of the biggest compliments you can give to the authors (when the base game cannot be recognized).
There is such a sense of solitude when you're walking around... It's really difficult to describe, and the overworld theme (Hylis) sets the mood perfectly. The mood of the towns is also very different than vanilla FF.The combat is fast and furious, what with the blood pumping music.

I cannot wait to try this hack again (now that I have more time)

@SliverX, if you or Thadd need any of the old media you released since ago/2004 (videos/screenshots, for historic purposes maybe), just ask.

Updated status:

All ASM issues are fixed (Big thanks to Kapow for looking at several of them).

Sargon's PSIs are complete; the Effectiveness of them needs tested, however.

Battles up to the point where I quit testing seem to be decently balanced now; if this carries through the rest of the game, it should be fine (Seems a little easy to me, but then again, I know all the enemies' abilities and the maps like the back of my hand).

Battle layouts and mappings should be completed this week.

We're experimenting with the NES's color emphasis settings: So far the game looks much darker without having to alter any palettes.

Also, the site has been updated.
