Honestly, Arwon, it's the opinion of me and many of my football-interested friends that Australia has a golden opportunity to win this match. Italy is really nothing but a has-been-name these days, and the attention of the players is greatly divided between the World Cup and their domestic league.

I wouldn't put your odds so far out there. Mexico had worse odds than you against Argentina and look how that almost turned out.

It's going to be tough, but I won't put it past Australia. Get the first goal and defend like hell.

...if Italy comes away with this with a win, I'll be stunned. Australia's playing FANTASTIC but that red card on Italy was BS. Yellow at the MOST.

You Aussies have to be proud of your country, win/lose.

Sydney's giving 'em a parade regardless of the result.

Strange Facts:

Of the 350 minutes we've been playing on the field, we've only been in the lead for 3 minutes.
How's that for ya?

7 MINUTES LEFT - 0 - 0

Hey, it doesn't matter how long you lead, just that you do at the end.

Another fun fact: 4 of Australia's 5 goals were scored in the 80th minute or later. Mang, if it wasn't for Brazil, no one would have a clue who's winning the whole thing this time around.

EDIT: I love that. One of Italy's players was going at it with an Australian player, no foul called, they both drag each other down, ball gets cleared, no call. Both of them are lying on the ground, looking at the ref as if to say "WTF mate?", then they help each other up. (Oh, and Gattuso just got booked. How many is that for Italy now? Just woke up around the 60th.)

AGAIN: Oopsie. Zambrotta just picked up the ball and went home after a foul, now HE'S been booked. This match is SO going to bonus ball.

Initial shock and, well, devestation having subsided, we have much to be proud of. Italy know they've scored a cheap and very lucky win, whereas we've won some respect and attention on the world stage for the first time. People won't take us lightly in 4 years time...

Still, legitimate penalty or not (so NOT), it hurts to go down, like that, after having so clearly had them against the wall for the majority of the game.

So now it's ¡VIVA ESPAÑA!

I'm calling this "The Italian Job".

Switzerland and Ukraine are going to extra time now, but I'm confident that karma is going to bite Italy in the ass in the next round. I'm VERY pissed off.

Between the Italy win and Switzerland/Ukraine playing one of the worst games in the history of the World Cup, I think they're REALLY trying to turn me off of the sport.

Not going to happen, of course, but they really gave it a good try today.

Switzerland are:

- The first team to be eliminated from a World Cup without conceding a goal;
- The first team to be eliminated from a World Cup without scoring in a penalty shootout.

Hm, that means that up untill today, Norway held the record (along with many others, I guess), after having been knocked out after conceding only a single goal (1994). Damn the Swiss for stealing our record!

Oh, and if it's any consolation, Arwon, I went through the same thing you do now 8 years ago. First Norway went through our group after having finished second behind Brazil, then we were knocked out in the round of 16, losing 1-0 to Italy (in fact, Italy is the only team to have beaten Norway in a World Cup, having done so all 3 times we have participated, thus making them the cause of our exit all 3 times).

Well, be glad you didn't qualify and get placed into Group F instead of, say, Croatia and end up advancing to play Italy.

If Ghana keeps this up, one team will eventually score. Their attack is stunningly good, however, their defensive line is put up way high, meaning Brazil can easiliy break through it.

I think, if Ghana can make it to 1-1, they might have a shot, if Brazil scores first and it's 2-0, however, it's all over.

Stupid Spanish continuing their stupid run of stupid heartbreak. I know it was inevitable, but, I know what continued disappointment over long periods of time feels like and it hurts. Maybe next time.

Good to know France won that match. I'm wanting them to win the cup just for Zidane. Although I predict the final matchup will be between Germany and Brasil.

France looked good but I can't stomach them winning the WC again. Brazil should take them out.
