So what's the best scenario this coming week... Tromso wins, Viking/Molde lose? That would put you guys at 29 points and with a very, VERY realistic chance of avoiding relegation or being put in the playoff at worst...

Good luck!

If we win, Viking and Molde (and preferably Fredrikstad) lose, then we realistically have playoff at worst. Molde can't capture us then, and Viking can only pass us if they happen to win by a lot and we lose by a lot, since our goal difference is much better. If Fredrikstad lost as well that means we're at safe ground before the last round. Fredrikstad has Rosenborg in their last match, Fredrikstad is good at home, but that good?

Either way, this magnificently unfair win has given us a realistic hope of survival again!

Yeah, but RBK will probably be fielding the reserves for that one given that they'd need to lose by a HELL of a lot if they didn't mathematically clinch the title by then.

Oh... those new signings are really helping West Ham out, yes?

Pretty much a perfect round. We won, Molde, Viking, Sandefjord, Odd, and HamKam lost. Only minor irch is that Fredrikstad won. All in all, though, I think we've made it. Molde's relegated. Viking can only catch us in theory (they'd have to win by a lot and us lose by a lot), and we have Sandefjord, Odd and HamKam all behind us on the league table. This means that if one of those three lose their last match, we've survived this nightmare, and are ready to come back and make a better impact on the league next year. Of course, we're not 100% safe yet. If Sandefjord, Odd and HamKam all win their matches while we lose, it's qualification, and then anything can happen. One week left before a season review can be made. I can finally realistically hope that it's a season review with a positive end.

Molde lost by a HELL of a lot to boot.

The interesting thing is that if for some reason you guys go down to the playoff, then a potential opponent is Bodo.

Yeah, there was a time when Molde/Aalesund, Viking/Bryne, and Tromsø/Bodø were all realistic playoff matches - and they are all fierce rivalries. Of course, now the Molde/Aalesund one won't happen since Molde is relegated and Aalesund achieved direct promotion, but the two other ones might still happen.

All you need to do is win next week, that would quell any worries about a heated Tromso/Bodo matchup.

Meanwhile, in women's soccer, Canada easily beat South Korea 3-1 this morning at the Women's Peace Cup. Given that and our 3-2 win over Italy, we just need to draw with Brazil to advance to the final. (And we usually give Brazil everything we've got so...) It's nice to build up some confidence heading towards next year's World Cup.

And yes, SomerZ... Pellerud is STILL our boss.

Ouch! No good day for Celtic yesterday. Hammered by Benfica, and FCK's sensational win now puts Celtic in a place where they have to fight to not end 4th in the group and be knocked out of the cup alltogether...

Once again the only game sportscenter recaps is Barca/Chelsea and they make a total mockery of it. This is why everyone hates America.

Tromsø plays Tippeliga-football next year. 3-1 loss today, Viking cancelled our 7 goal lead in goal difference by beating Brann 5-0, but we topped Viking on more goals scored. Finally, Start beat Odd 2-1 to put us in a safe 10th place, two spots ahead of the dreaded play-off spot. HamKam is sent packing by a fantastic Stabæk. I won't say I'll miss them, they're probably the least colourful team in all of Norway. Molde is gone, but that was known already. I won't miss them, either, they're probably the biggest colletion of assholes in all of Norway. All in all, a perfect end to the season (despite the Tromsø-loss).

So, what happens next year? Kibebe and Bernier are gone. Christensen retires. Årst and Rush ain't getting younger...
On the bright side, Reginiussen will have one more year of experience. Ademolu will hopefully put in more stable performances. Ramovic and Rush will be there from the start of season. Moldskred will be injury-free. With a stable back and a good midfielder I think we can avoid another year as relegation battlers... Here's to hoping Tromsø won't have to fight 'till the last round next year (or if they have to, it's fighting for silverware, not survival)!

Congratulations! It all worked out in the end and you managed a fantastic escape from the drop. Now you can relax and work things out for next season, hopefully finishing in a safe mid-table spot.

Where's Bernier rumored to go? I'm guessing he either stays in Scandinavia or Toronto FC tries to lure him back to North America.

Word on the street is he's homesick. His fiancé is still in Canada, so I guess Toronto FC would be a viable option.

What's funny is that four matches ago, the statistians gave Tromsø a measly 14% chance of avoiding relegation. Now, at the end, survival without even having to play the dreaded play-off.

Usually, they say 30 is the magic number. 30 points is considered "safe", and is the number most coaches who fight to avoid relegation set as their goal ahead of season. Since the Tippeliga was upgraded to 14 teams, only 1 team has ended in playoff with 30 points (Molde last year), no team has been relegated at 30 points.

This year, however, the magic number was 29!

10 Tromsø 29pts
11 Viking 29pts
====
12 Odd 29pts
-------
13 HamKam 28pts
14 Molde 25pts

It also tells you how even the Tippeliga is, because a team in mid-table with 5 games to go could conceivably bang off 5 straight wins to possibly get a European spot.

The Canadian Soccer Association (read: our FA) fired chief operating officer Kevan Pipe late last week. It was probably a move that had to be made, because the last good accomplishments Pipe did were getting the U20 World Cup and (probably) getting a new TV deal with CBC (which looks a lot more promising than the Sportsnet deal... think the BBC getting England rights). So now we need...

- A chief operating officer to handle the sponsorships and our possible bid for the 2011 Women's World Cup;
- A technical director to manage all of our national teams;
- A head coach for the men's team, which should be announced in the next two months - and the players have made it clear they want someone with experience.

Oh well. At least we still have Even to lead our girls into the 2007 Women's WC.

Bah! Wrong post in the thread.

Still, wanted to say that Celtic just won their 11th game in a row over Caley Thistle today, 3-0. Celtic beat every team in the league during that span and I want the title to be handed to us next weekend kthx.

So, congrats on making it to the next round! Nakamura's free kick may have been dubious, I'm not sure if it was a tackle or not, but all in all, Celtic haven't let in a single goal at home in the Champions League this year and they deserve their spot in the next round!

Oh ho ho ho ho...

Ah ha ha ha ha...

BWAHAHAHA!!! ^_____^

Celtic were great today... OK... not "great" but we got the job done unlike United, and no last-minute penalty decision was going to screw us over this time! We were due!

We still have to finish the job. Go to Copenhagen, beat FCK and go into the draw as a group winner. Who knows... Celtic vs. AEK Athens in the Round of 16 could be a possibility.

Saha needs to be beaten for stopping when he thought>/i> he was offside.

God damn.

No Celtic bashing allowed in this thread.

Saha made a boo-boo on the botched offside. The penalty save was all Boruc guessing right.

Oh, and your Ukrainians finally got a win today. XD Actually an impressive one too... Shakhtar over Roma 1-0.

Yes, yes we did.

On that point, at least the Muscovites aren't as bad as the other Slav teams.

I've not had the time to follow the league taht closely, though.
