Okay, I may be weird, but I don't think that's dealing directly with sex. Seems more precisely related to wet dreams and the like. Either way, it's not a very useful quote.

(As for what Silvershield said, lets not forget the parts forbidding mixing fabrics/crops/etc, eating shellfish, and various other things.)

Maybe I'm wrong, heck i'm not even a christian, but i did take a college class on comparative religions. In that class i was taught that in christianity, eve's eating of the apple was symbolic of knowledge of sex, which is the origional sin. This is why everyone is said to be born with a burden of sin, because we came out of origional sin.

It depends on the dogmatic alignment of the church in question. If that church is the Church than original sin isn't particularly important. All humans sin is our belief. Some protestant denominations which do later-life baptisms wash away the Original Sin in these baptisms.

And yeah, Jewish law is rather specific about human bodily discharges. However, Christians aren't Jews and it has to be understood that most Old Testament laws don't really apply to us. We loves our shellfish.

No. No he isn't. He's saying that there's enough people in general who do to guarantee that by him saying "we", he's not just referring to himself and the voices in his head.

I like oysters. Put them in a stew... Or fried clams... yum!

(In other news: If that was a joke, it wasn't a very good one.)

Could've been a matter of a particular professor's perception of the issue. I've had my share of teachers who profess specific views that are somewhat less than plausible, or at least less than popular, and sometimes they need to be taken with a grain of salt.

if sex/gender didn't exist then how could there be a man and a woman? I mean, there would just be 2 people in the garden.... not a man and a woman....

I find that God not wanting us to have sex is like handing a Crack Addict some Cocane and punishng him for snorting it. Retarded!

Er, this thread seems to be veering off-topic chotto (a bit). It seems like it's becoming a discussion just about sex being the original sin, which is fine as part of the subject, but you must remember there are other portions of the subject to discuss, such as whether the Gnostics were true. This discussion, unfortunately, seems to be getting into a discussion of sex as the original sin for its own sake. Please veer back or start a new thread on sex being the original sin.

Maybe that's just an indication that the original topic has either been exhausted or is simply not as engaging as what the thread's become. Why is it such common practice to encourage members to discuss a topic that, if left to themselves, they would not pursue? Why is it the job of the moderator to tell posters what they should or should not be writing about? It's not as if the thread starter is complaining that his topic has been hijacked or anything like that, so why not just leave well-enough alone?

(In retrospect, that sounds a bit aggressive, even though it's not intended to. So, don't read too far into it.)

Er, again, if you have a problem with a decision by the moderating staff, please PM the moderator in question directly or an admin.

Arwon,

At the very least, try to tie it into the original subject.

But there hasn't been a decision?

Also, sex and Christianity is, very clearly, the topic of the thread.

I know, I meant that the idea of God not wanting us to have sex was retarded.

Sex isnt "the original sin." Sex is a carnal sin. Since we are all born because of sex, we are imperfect. Thats why Jesus had to have a virgin birth, so he would be perfect.

that doesn't have any sence, many lifeform can reproduce without sex but that doesn't mean they're 'perfect', and I don't think Jesus was 'perfect' maybe he was 'holy' but not 'perfect' since he probably did some mistake in his life

Um, first off, Jesus was perfect. He never sinned. Secondly, yeah, many lifeforms reproduce without sex, but human beings are the only ones with souls.

prove me that other animal don't have souls... or that human have souls

...or even better tell me the exact point in the evolution where human started to have soul

and to be 'perfect' you need more that have never sinned

also, according to what you said, if I change my DNA to be able to reproduce without sex, then all my son will be 'perfect'
