Commercials can be bad enough, but local commercials are by far the worse.

Right now, there is this one commercial for a place called "Scratch and Dent World" from around my area. If I posted the script, you'd think I just copy and pasted the beginning three times.

I don't know how many times I have to hear yelling that goes "ON MARTIN LUTHER KING! IN OCALA! 14 DAYS!" in one commercial. It literally lasts three minutes.
And then repeating within 2 sentences?
"These scratch and dent appliances are brand new with warrantee. They are scratch and dented, but they are brand new with warrantee."

What are some of the most annoying/worse commercials you have seen, locally and nationally?

EDIT: IT PLAYED AFTER I POSTED THIS!

Eh... some of the ones around here are pretty good. The car dealership commercials are usually pretty good.

Fire-sale advertising is soooo annoying. We have a few who do file-sale advertisements around here. A place called Designer Direct is one of the more annoying, then some furniture places... and a place called Mr Bankrupt really REALLY annoys me.

ABC's "The Chaser's War on Everything" have a segment called "Scenes from the Life of the Crazy Warehouse Guy" -- in which a guy from these kinds of advertisements goes through every day situations like asking for directions or buying McDonalds.

King Capital used to have the owner's baby on with a fake voice, which was kinda creepy. I think he's old enough to talk now, so no more of that.

Back home we used to have Buddy's Carpet commercials, which had Buddy being crazy and yelling a lot.

And there was the classic "Garfield 1-2323" commercials.

Yeah, all of our local commercials suck horribly. The worst ones are for "Amarillo National Bank," where this skinny guy with glasses is pro ANB, whereas this fat guy with a mustache is anti ANB. He mispronounces Amarillo every time he says it. Its on purpose, its supposed to be funny. Honestly, in 1995 when they started doing it, and I was 10, I thought it was funny. Now, its just sad.

... what does that even mean?! Does it mean they are scratched and dented? But it says they are "brand new with warrantee."!

What I hate are those lame commercials that happen to have the volume messed up, so you either adjust it thinking something happened or they come out loud enough to wake up the neighborhood.

Scratch and dent are the ones that got somewhat damaged in stockrooms, etc. They're still brand new because they were never sold, though, and they're still warranteed so that they're guaranteed to work.

Doctor Credit commercials are laughably bad around here. And I agree with Someguy's point about the commercials with varying volume levels.

Alot of commercials here sound all muffled and cheap. They use amateur tools and household cameras to record them. The "special effects" look like a crappy job in powerpoint. About 45% of those commercials have a SPURS player telling you to go to a community remedial college to "succeed". I also hate those cheesy 'Attorney Wayne Wright' commercials. An old geezer spokesman with a cowboy hat walks into an office and says, "You desherve reshpect and jushtice, so weee DEMAYND it!" then he exits after getting his hat like his nachos can't wait.

Does anyone get those 'Malaise and Davis' commercials? THE William Chatner from StarTrek is the spokesperson and he sorta whispers, "If you've been injured... (long ass pause) you may deserve (pause) worker's compensation" *DUN!!!!!!* (holy shit wtf was that!?).

Eh, most local commercials here in English are passable. Nothing too embarassing.

Now, you look at some of the ethnic commercials with still shots of vacation destinations and that... :\

There's a place around here that sells beds, and they seem to have some of the dodgiest special effects on advertising television.

I suspect somebody there got a video editing suite for a birthday present, and though it would be cool to add a bunch of stupid effects. Like the screen picture going wavy, or such. Once they put animated legs on the beds and made the beds walk out the doors.

The MOST annoying things I find on TV though tend to do with the fields in which I work. I cannot stand the bad advertising for Internet Service Providers, Computer Resellers or Hosting Resellers. One ad for Hosting Resellers really DID look like somebody made it in PowerPoint, and they couldn't spell right....

There is a store around here called "Raper's Furniture." I hope there's a damn good reason for a family name like that... they're still not going to get my business and their commercials are annoying anyway.

Furniture and Mattress warehouses are by far the most annoying ads out there. Especially on radio, where people yell as loud as they can into the microphone trying to get you excited about their big sale but all it does is piss you off. Radio advertising is 50 times worse than TV advertising.

I don't watch TV a lot, but from what I've seen is that the commercials tend to be done with crappy equipment, overacting, and the such. Oh yeah, don't forget about the cheesy PowerPoint-esque effects.

On random notes, I was trying to see the government access channel once for local legislation stuff. After I was watching for two minutes, a PowerPoint error box popped up, five seconds latter the Windows 2000 BSOD, complete with their reboot sequence with the video capture still turned on live

Pwned.

I have a different local commercial experience. This one mattress gallery has this guy who dresses up like batman, zorro, and a couple of other superheroes, and parodies them for his ads. It's done in such a way, however, that it's not nearlty as annoying as it is funny.

Well, I haven't seen this commercial as many times as that old Subway Honey Ham and Swiss Sub commercial. Since our Fox station is sponsored by Subway, they played that commercial at the beginning AND end of EVERY commercial break.

Eh, Powerpoint effects for my local commercials as well. Not with errors like FreeDOS, but they are still cheesy.

I forgot about the Funiture King. He has his kids sometimes do the commercials. Every commercial ends with "WOW!" which is then cut off in the middle and repeated three times. What makes it worse is that he drives a motorcycle in the place past some couches and beds.

You think those are bad, try living in a medium-sized town. So much talk about the "community" and stuff like that. Hell, over three quarters of the news is nothing more than "special reports" and interviews, and they even have commercials which are actually mini TV shows. One interesting commercial was on water conservation. If the shoddy mockumentry style of someone who uses too much water didn't get you, the camerawork would. It literally looked like there was a goddamned earthquake happening. I'm not kidding.

Aren't infomercials those long commercials spanning over a minute that tell you all about about a product and end with a blue screen with lots of stuff telling you how to order it via credit card? Because I wasn't refering to those. One example is a cooking show that often shows up taking up an entire commercial break when The Price is Right is on.

Infomercials are funny. They come on late at night here and are always good for entertainment value -- at least until they get repetetive anyways.

The Zorro thing reminds me.... for a while here a jeweller called Zamels had a whole "Zorro" thing going on.... but that was when I was a kid. Now they have the owner of the company acting like a fool instead.

Haha. Reminds me of something that happened to the local cable station. They have this news feed channel that just loops a lot of text and then shows the station's logo. During one particularly big storm, instead of showing the news text, it just showed some crap like "IRHGOHGOIUDFHGUHR GUIHGRHESUREGH" over and over.

I always thought they were the hour-long commercials that air at 3 AM when there's nothing better to put on.
