I was trying to rename a file on my Windows ME computer but right as I right click that file, this error message appears:

Runtime Error:

Program: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

Then I got that annoying pop-up saying:

Explorer has casued an error in MSVCR80.DLL. Explorer will not close.

After closing that window, everything disappears except my wallpaper meaning I have to restart my computer. This error always appears everytime I right click on any file. I need to know how to fix that.

One more issue, my computer somehow lost about 18GB of free space in less than 3 days. I had 33.4 GB of used space on my computer at the beginning of the week and I now have 50.8GB of used space out of 74.5 GB. The only thing I downloaded during those 3 days was Microsoft .Net Framework to run a few programs but I don't get how that can take up 18 GB when the details said it only takes 22.4MB.

I need some help.

You should try checking the disk for errors. IIRC you do that from a program in the Start menu, but it's been ages since I used ME (and not long enough ). ME is as buggy as your average anthill, though, so expect things to act up at random like that.

Well, I couldn't find that program in the Start Menu but I did find it when I restart my computer. Unfortunately, the computer freezes a little after about halfway through the process. However, the scan did get rid of 0.5 GB of used space. Hmm..

I also got this crazy idea earlier today that maybe a virus is making Runtime screw up. I did a little virus scan on Avast! AV and got 4 viruses before I cancelled the scan because it was taking too long. I'll scan my computer again before I go to bed.

Here are the 4 viruses:

Win32: Trojan-Gen {Delphi}
Win32: Trojano-214 [Trj]
Win32: Small-FU [Trj]
Win32: Small-GI [Trj]

I've been browsing the Internet for information on what these viruses do but no such luck.

Well, uh, yeah...having 4 different trojans running on your computer just *might* cause problems.
