Edit: It would be better if it was changed to Ode to N00b speak, No use insulting anyone who uses aol. That would be a Sterotype.

Edit(s): Must learn to look over posts before posting.

A very free verse poem.

Warning "N00b-Speak*" talk has been banned.
Please step out of the client and pay attention in english.
You have a right to talk in N00b-Speak.
Anything you say will be laughed at.
You have a right to a translator.
If you can not get a translator we will hire a crazy psycho.
He might not be able to translate, but he will kill you and make the world a better place.

Heh Sorry I had to vent my rage, after seeing people talk like...

"k"
"thts"
"s"
"ur"
"u"

Not to mention the question
ASL?

It's even worse when some girls in my english 1201 (10 academic) Class pass in assignments using "noob-Aol" speak.

What do you all think (Not of the very different poem) but of people who talk like that?

Edit: It's even worse in sprite comics.

*Was N00b-Aol

Typically the stereotypical "AOL user" is the same as the stereotypical "n00b". It's a stereotype, yes, but it's common enough not to be considered too insulting.

Otherwise... "hire" and "psycho", just so you know. (Both on the second to last line of the poem. Minor, but I tend to be rather bad about spelling errors.)

How do people get away with turning in assignments like that in real classes? Please tell me they fail hard in the class. Please. (It goes without saying that they fail hard at life.)

Edit: Hmm. Apparently it's of all time. link

Yes it is. As a former AOL user, I acknowledge the fact that said ISP has the worst service ever. It makes dial-up even slower, as I couldn't get a connection over 35.6 kb/s, whereas most local ISPs have an average connection speed of 45.5 kb/s. I hated AOL then, and I still hate it today.

@Darkdata: They get to redo their assignments? Is the teacher male? If so, that explains it.

Knowing how stupid they are, do they wind up redoing the assignments the same way again? If so, can they repeat AGAIN?

Has AOL ever gotten a good comment? I'm suprised its still living today, y'know, with so much better internet services today.

Someone needs to pull the plug on that crap.

You'd be surprised how strong the idiot factor is. You give a bunch of people CDs that say "TRY THE INTERNET TODAY", and at least a few of them will fall for it. They're the ones who get easily lured in; they're sheep, but they have money. And that money is what AOL thrives on.

That, and the overprotective parents. The ones who fall for the whole "Making the internet safe for your kids" thing.

It's not just AOL users though. I think it's called "AOL talkers" largely because AIM is a major cause of such stupidity.

Honestly, I think its pure laziness.

I mean, it only takes half a second to type two complete words. COMPLETE.

Wait, you got 35.6 kb/s from AOL? I only got 24.4 kb/s right now, whereas PeoplePC right now only gives me 26.4 MAX. I blame this city.

I started browsing the web with AOL. It sucked as after a while it prohibited me to play Starcraft with my friends and it also charged my sister's child account as a full account (therefore making it $40+ a month for AOL). Called and complained and the excuse? "Oh, she set it to be an actual account." Made no sense... as you can't do shit with child filters.

I think AOL speak was made for IMing. Since AIM was the first to successfully make the IM work, it got considered "AOL Speak" or so I think...

AOL will never disappear because of the company. AOL Time-Warner owns loads of shit everywhere. With new people being introduced to computers and internet everyday, there will always be a n00b market. All of their advertising is marketed towards people who know practically nothing. The one thing I cant think of worse than AOL is getting the AOL broadband thing. If you get that, you still pay the ridiculous 24.95 a month for AOL and its "state of the art up-to-date software," but then you have to actually pay someone else for the actual internet service.

AOL's not ALL bad. It's just MOSTLY bad.

I had to use AOL for a while. I hated it, but I didn't get a choice in the matter -- however, when I used AOL I still didn't type like an idiot to everybody and anybody. I've only ever said a/s/l as a joke. I might say "k" instead of "okay" or "ok" but come to think of it, if you actually HEAR me say the same thing in real life, it's usually just "k" too

Yeah, it's fine to shorten the occasional word, not use periods, etc, but "lol asl? r u hot?" is just... no.

Agreed. At least on AIM it's not:

Somehow, that screams CounterStrike to me, but I have NO clue how. It could also deal with IRC lamers.

I somewhat enjoy the name length limits on AIM, even though they're just a few letters too short for the names I'd want sometimes... And fortunately enough, I'm sheltered enough (by choice, mind you) that I don't have to deal with the idiot crowd. A few abbreviations, but nothing too exaggerated.
