I understand you HATE n00bs but the newbies that do want to learn and not get in the way sometimes have trouble. The anwser is always read the FAQS,but sometimes the FAQS is not always the answer. PM is an answer. Just because you hated another n00b doesn't mean this newbie is rude also. There are crappy topics in that board cause of non person to person help. I am still in this situation at times.I have talked to new users before. They do need your help. FAQS can help with the basics but sometimes someone is stuck on a little thing. That doesn't mean they are a n00b for it. So what i'm trying to say is have some more patience before you chew their heads off for not understanding complicated stuff like HEX and ASM.

4 copies of damn doesn't make the topic better.

Occasionally perhaps topics will get closed a bit prematurely, oh well. Make sure you look through the FAQs first; if you have a problem not specifically answered in those, you MAY want to ask one of the people that are listed that you can PM/IM for help. If your problem hasn't shown up in the FAQs or on the first (possibly second, not sure how stringent the mods are) page, THEN you can post a topic. Otherwise, it'll get closed for being in the FAQ.

At least, that's how I see it. You can't really expect the mods/admins to personally PM every single new person to make sure they know what they're doing.

By the way: Hex isn't complicated. Count to F instead of to 9; yippee.

Way to add to your post content and prove how high the average IQ of that forum is, man.

It is not a SMW hacking help forum. It's a SMW hacking discussion forum. Are you implying that any newbie question should be answered when numerous FAQs exist? And if people would just pay attention to what they were doing and follow instructions there would be way less irritation all around. You know how many topics end up with the original creator going "whoops!" just b/c they were an idiot and didn't put some exgfx file in the right place. And they aren't an idiot for making that mistake, they're an idiot for making a thread about it and wasting people's time. I do stupid things all the time but I absolutely try to work it out before I ask for help. People in the SMW hacking forum basically make no effort as far as I can tell. They want everything to be as easy as pi. It doesn't help that many of the users can barely type legible English sentences and refuse to explain their exact problem in detail anyways.

no no no no no.
That isn't what I mean at all. Some faqs are not even there any more like the ExGFX workshop thread. What if someone needs help with ExGFX? because that person is new to hacking they aren't suppose to know? What if they didn't understand something in the FAQS they should not ask someone? I'm not supporting the crap that HAS been happening lately. *Same person posting the same thread over and over while just changing the name and pretending since the last thread got closed it never existed* What i'm trying to say is you don't have to put there confidence down for wanting help the FAQS didn't cover much on.

BTW the details part I believe posting a screenshot of there work would solve that.

You could just use the forum what it was made for--it isn't too hard, is it?

It isn't so much making a deal of it which would make it get left alone, but rather I think behaving in a way more consistent with the rules would make it go away.

There is a distinct difference between poorly-worded, poorly thought-out questions, which won't get answered, and those which are not considered bad. The problem is with the wording of the question, NOT the forum.

Basically, if you ask a question and it gets locked, look CLOSELY at the FAQs, look at the locked topic, and see what you can change. Here's a hint: If the locked topic has no more than "HOW DO I DO (x)", odds are that it's ENTIRELY wrong. You have to have shown an attempt on your own to find out what's going on. Read the FAQs, look around on the forums, hell, look at other people's hacks and see what they did. Lunar Magic is VERY user friendly.

No. Just no. It's possible for someone with a low post count to be a competent hacker, and just as possible for someone with a high post count to be a complete n00b who just happens to spam a lot. Post count != hacking intelligence.

And also thin out the smart flowing in it.

Think of FuSoYa. He has what, 2 posts (if that) on this board? yet, he's the god of SMW hacking. I say no to minimum post counts.

And personally, if not for the fact that it IS the SMW hacking forum, I honestly would just post in the ROM hacking forum, because I feel that the SMW forum doesn't give real feedback; there aren't enough people who know what the fuck they're doing there- they all seem to be in the ROM hacking forum.

Maybe a link to How To Ask Questions the Smart Way is needed in that forum. If users fail to ask questions the Smart Way, then they won't get answers / be told off.

That might help eliminate some of the crap and maybe one day bring that forum out of the "crap" group.
