Click options, then tick "use joined GFX files". Pressing the red Super Mushroom in Lunar Magic will cause a folder to appear in the same folder as your ROM, wherein you will find AllGFX.bin. Open that in TLP.

The point is, so that the average idiot can't come along with no knowledge and experience, and use SMAS GFX; (...) Basically, it just means idiots can't have nice GFX. Of course, anybody who's not an idiot here (and there aren't many of those) can rip the GFX himself.

If you had half a brain, you'd realize THAT is being elitist, in a way. That's not even what I'm reproaching him anyway. But I think he got the point already.

Alright, can we all drop it now? It's gone way off-topic. _¬

If you have to continue flaming each other, there's a handy feature called Private Messages.

Let's try to bring this thread back on topic... whatever the topic is.

I only get 3bpp snes, not 4bpp. Theyre still a bunch of glitchy dots.

You guys have no need to get mad at Pac, he is simply requesting to be noted for his work. Hard or not, whether it's Nintendo's GFX or not, someone still has the trouble of ripping them. I agree with him too - he doesn't want people that don't even have a clue what they are, and use them in their own hack, when they have terrible level design - it just makes them look bad. _¬

On-topic: Believe it or not, the way I usually rip GFX is through BGMapper. I simply make a save state of the tileset I want, wherever that may be, then load it up in BGMapper and export it as a BMP. From there, I copy the tiles into a blank ExGFX file in YY-CHR, then load them up in Lunar Magic.

Of course, you might have a bit of trouble with palettes (I did anyway ) so be careful.

And most of all, good luck

i use m16-7k to rip backgrounds - and some objects

it's fast since you dont have to manually change colors in the palette (although you made need to rearrange it) and you dont need to piece together the 8x8 tiles into the 16x16 ones you need

if you're new to ripping stuff though it takes awhile to get used to, and there are no really good tutorials on it out there as far as i know. maybe i'll make one sometime

Sounds like you and I use a near identical method, the only things I do different is I change the view pallete of the VRAM GFX before I extract them, (using page up + page down). Also, to transfer pallettes easier, just open two instances of Lunar magic, one containing your new level with the new GFX the other containing any other level, in the second copy, import the savestate, then find which pallete the GFX you ripped uses, then copy (using ctrl+click) and paste between the two... rather simple, but quite helpful...

Thanks everyone, this should help alot, sounds like there are few ways to do this. I couldn't find this advice anywhere else, maybe this should be linked to in the that thread with tools for newbies, it would have been useful to me starting, and it might encourage people to not just take graphics from other hacks.
