I've seen the more expieranced people here suggest several times that us new hackers rip our own graphics, and I'm i've been doing that for some of the graphics for my hack so far. When I rip graphics I just run an emulator and take screenshots, and then edit those images. No one ever told me of any ripping techniques and this seemed like the most obvious method. So this feels like a stupid question, but is this how everyone does it?? ? ?

Oh god no. There are three methods I use:

1. Open the game you want to rip from, like SMAS(.smc) in a graphics editor like YY-Chr, find the tiles of the background you want to rip, and paste them into an ExGFX file of your hack.

2. Open the game you want to rip from, like SMAS, in ZSNES and take a screenshot when you see a background. The open the savestate(.zst) in YY-Chr to see the tiles of that background. Lunar Magic can also import the palette of that savestate into the level.

3. If I can't make a ZSNES savestate, I can't find the tiles uncompressed in the ROM, and all else fails, I rip from a screenshot. But I rarely have to do that.

An alternative option is M16-7k, but I don't use that at all. There's a tutorail around here somwhere by Ice Man.

Hope that helps.

I must say that I'm using most of the time Tanooki Hero's method as well, because it's probably very easy to find the GFX from Allstars in TLP/YY-Chr, but if you want GFX from more less known games, the chances are good that they are compressed. I tried the method with the savestate some time as well, but I never could find the BG-GFX in a savefile, so I just ended up ripping screenshots.

For some GFX i used m16-k7 as well, but from my (and other people's) experience with that feature I really suggest to not use it (if you want to play the hack on ZSNES). Some people are saying, that you can fix the problem with saving the "corrupted" level one time more, but that's just the beginning.
(In a case, that's right, but I would suggest to fix m16-k7-glitches at the very last thing to do in a hack. If you changing something in the hack after fixing all the glitches, you will end up with glitches again, and this time you can't get them out so easily.)
So, ... Don't use it.

Shut the fuck up, you twat.

FPI, if you open a savestate in a graphics editor, you need to press + 19 times for the GFX to appear clearly.

Now I want to get ExGFX inserting right but most tile editors are hard to understand. I cant use YY-chr cuz it will always be infected with a virus. An antivirus program keeps telling me that and it says thatI can heal it. If I heal it, the program will no longer be infected, right? WRONG!! Its still trojanised.

If I use another tile editor like Tile Ed pro, it will open safely for me. But I dont know how to use it. Like getting the tiles proper image and how to use them respectively. Im posting this cuz I want to edit Mario and Luigi GFX.

Does anyone have a guide or help file that will help me out?

Why? cuz he said trojanised??

If your computer thinks YY-Chr is a trojan virus, there's nothin really you can do about it after that. Get to know how to use TLP instead. Use it to open the GFX that LM extracts.

Change the view mode from 2bpp to 4bpp snes.

Also, you can export a palette file in LM and load it in TLP.

Oh, and about the trolling of Pac, stop it. Elitism is NOT welcome here.

Sorry for being a mod, but Pac is a good friend of mine, and he doesn't need you all's crap. Thanks.

Exporting as in using the GFX file on my desktop?
