Use SMBDX's OW as a guideline, in that only the ground and paths should be on Layer 2, and everything else is on Layer 1.

These are the instructions that peter_ac gave me to make a Super Mario Bros. 3 style overworld, and I THINK I'm doing relatively okay so far. But now I'm stuck on the shared palletes (2)... what does that mean? I did step 1 and the overworld turned into this:

Tile Selector
Overworld After

Can anyone tell me if it looks like I've done anything wrong so far? I need a clear explanation about how to fix anything I may have done wrong... if I haven't done anything wrong, please give me a very simple and clear explanation about how to continue.

I want this done soon because I want to release my first demo within a couple of days. This thing has been bugging me for about a week now!

Okay

For those of you just tuning in, you replaced the tiles. Obviously they're going to look messed up if you didn't change anything in the overworld itself.

As for extracting the palettes... no idea. You may have to copy them manually.
Probably the easiest way to do this would be to open two LM windows, one with peter_ac's hack and the other with yours, then copy the colors from one window to another.

Actually I figured that one out myself. "Extract Shared Palletes from ROM" in the File -> Palletes thing. However... it's still screwed up.

Delete the old overworld and start building a new one. The graphics are messed up because the tiles are all different now.

But... even the tile selector and the little blue block that peter_ac told me to switch properly (which I did)... they're all screwed up and not the right tiles. Whyyyyy?

I'm starting to want someone else to quickly do this overworld insert for me but no one would do that.

I hate being a noob at this.

I hate that, I wish Lunar Magic came with a save overworld to file feature, or save overworld palette to file feature.
I always screw up a hack and I totally have to restart the Overworld.

I fixed my overworld, Super Mario Bros. 3 is FINALLY IN! However, I still have a couple more tiny problems.

1) Paradise Land is based over Bowser's Valley. So it's all nice and fun there... problem is... there's thunder FX in the background with flashes. How do I stop that?

2) On the main overworld section I deleted all of the layer 1 and 2 tiles and the sprites... but there's still like 6 or 7 sprites there such as fish and some koopa-like thing as well as smoke from Yoshi's house. Why?

3) I'm having a huge pallette problem and I think it's my own fault, not sure though. My loading screen (where it says Super Mario World and Mario runs around) is retarded... it's all off-colour and the ground flashes. Also, if I use the same ground in other levels it flashes as well... and the bush graphics are really messed up. If you want me to take a screenshot I will but it's tedious for me to do so so unless you want me to do it I'm not going to right yet.

As for the pallettes: Go to File -> Pallettes -> Extract pallettes from ROM... go to your ROM File -> Pallettes -> Insert Pallettes from file or something like that. Pretty easy if you're ripping pallettes from another ROM.

Well, apparently you can extract palletes from the LM main window.

As for the overworld itself, I accidentally stumbled across an easy way to do that. When you change roms, the OW editor doesn't update automatically, so all you have to do is load the original rom, open the OW editor, open the new rom, and click save.

There's a ROM address that can be changed somewhere in the Archive. Unfortunately that's the best I can do.

Click on the Cheep Cheep button (Edit Sprites List)

Can't help with 3, sorry.

As for problem 3 I think I can help, first as for the flashing ground, check to see if the level is using any animations, if it is delete them.
If everything is off color when it's in lunar magic too, that would be a pallette problem, if it's off color only in the game, then I can't help you,
And if you are saying it's the lettering thats off color, the use the titlescreen editor and set it right.

You're going to have to witness this problem first hand. Anyone who thinks they can help, tell me, and I'll e-mail/PM/message the ROM to you. I'm not going to post it as that will break the rules. The pallette is very screwed up in some places.
