Just to be picky, the Y and the I are different on your title screen...

Yeah, this is just concept art, so I just more or less used the same font. Once I make the final product, I'll make sure all the letters match. The Y is going to be a pain in the ass, because I had to make a custom one in YY-CHR, so I'm probably going to have to do the same thing in Photoshop. I just kind of tossed this together to see what my idea for the label would look like. I don't even have the actual label dimensions yet, so everything is subject to change.

OK, this might be a little premature of me, but since I'm going to Japan for a week, I'll showcase some progress I've made on this game's soundtrack. So far I have sequenced 4 1/2 songs. All except for track 5 are original pieces.

The nsf is below. I will guide you to the new tracks.

Track 2- Theme for Castle Entrance. It is a slightly modified version of the midi I attached somewhere earlier in this topic. There are multiple melodies running at the same time in some parts, and this caused some problems because one of the squares get blacked out whenever sound effects occur. I have learned to tone down a bit on doing such compositions in that style.

Track 3- Theme for Royal Chessboard. I'll probably scrap those first three notes. Probably the oddball of the bunch being kind of unusual for a Castlevania song but I think it's appropriate for one of the games' quirkier levels.

Track 4- Theme for Top of Olrox's Palace (?). The reason why it's short is because it's incomplete.

Track 5- Theme for Olrox's Quarters. This is Dance of Pales from Symphony of the Night, I believe the same theme that played for Olrox's Quarters in that game.

Track 7- Theme for Courtyard. An attempt to bring more grace to one of the prettier stages. Might change a few notes around.

If you're wondering about Tracks 6 and 8, these were used in another Castlevania game I was hacking some months ago. 6 is the baseline for "Rising" and 8 is of course a theme from Castlevania 2.

Here's the ips, apply it to castlevania's original nsf.

This is EXACTLY why I approached optomon to do the music for my hack. Everything sounds incedible. I think I might have had a heart attack when I heard 8-bit Dance of Pales.

What do you mean? You download the .nsf file of Castlevania from Zophars. You download the .ips file provided by Optomon. You use an ips program to patch the .ips to the .nsf file. You can then listen to the new music using WinAmp..provided you have the plugins to play .nsf's.

By then way, I love track 5 and 7. I also loved track 8, as soon as you mentioned it was from Castlevania 2, I quickly dusted of the game. I never really liked Castlevania 2, but I guess a simple excuse was all I needed to play through it.

Great work Optomon. You too Dr.Mario.

Yo Dr. Mario, I love your hacks & the way you care about not meddling around too much in the storylines of the series. IGA probably hates you , but this is what CV once was about, innit?
Say, where can I download your hacks? Couldn't find the place...

Thanks! IGA probably would hate me just because I decided to involve a DeNasty in a Castlevania story line again... well that and I'm sure all of Konami wouldn't be too happy with the whole rom hacking thing. You can get my other CV hack here: http://80snostalgia.0nyx.com

Here's some updates:

I posted this over in the General Screenshot thread, but I figured that I might as well keep everything together here. As far as progress, I'm probably about 25%-50% done with GFX, optomon is still working on the music and doing a great job, and tonight I'm going to start working on level design. I'm going to focus on the levels for now, untill I finish them. After those are done, I'm going to hop back onto spriting everything and try to figure out how to make "Dracula" the boss for level 5 and make Death the last boss. This hack is actually coming very close to completion, so I'm pretty excited.

The only thing I've not liked is the enemies using the green pallete. I don't like their outline being a close enough shade to their other colros. If you're not wanting to use black, perhaps a brown? just my opinion

Everything is pure sweet though~

I made the lighter palette for the green sprites more pale when I was test playing, and it looked better to me. I especially love the ghost.

I was fishing through the rom yesterday, and found ways to create new rooms and control their sizes, with some limitations. I''ve discovered a few things on enemies too, so expect something from that.

Those Palletes are subject to change, and actually there's a very good chance they will. I really don't want to use gradients of one color if I don't have to so after I'm done spriting everything I'm going to experiment with color combinations, it's just easier for me to work with a close gradient when I only have 3 colors to work with for some reason.

**Edit**
I forgot about the other reason why I replied. When everything is all finished, I'm going to release multiple versions of the hack. I've talked to people that have been pretty turned off by Castlevania's difficulty, so I'm going to release a normal version and an easy version. The easy version will start you with the maximum amount of lives possible, and all enemies will only do one bar of damage. The other version I'm thinking of releasing will be one where I rework the GFX to work with a custom pallete, I just think it would be kind of fun to do.

Eh, I've been there already. The way I see it though is that I'm still going to be releasing a version of it with the normal pallete (I plan on actually getting this put on an NES cart) so if someone wants to come in my thread and give me crap about it they can bite me, and if it starts any serious trouble like last time the debate came up in a thread about one of my hacks I'll just get the staff involved. That whole debate just starts a 3 page off-topic arguement.
