Right now I just have a couple problems to ask about that have been bothering me in the past couple days. They're as follows:

Wireless Network Problems (again)
About a week ago now, he asked me if I could come upstairs to his room and try to get it working for him, and I told him exactly what had to be done before: turn off the modem down here, then restart his computer. However, some time between during the last time he asked me to help him with it, and that time there, he got a new computer Thankfully, it's a lot better than the one he had before. Aparently my sister is getting the old one (I feel sorry for her), but that's really not the point.

After fiddling around with the computer for a bit, I realized there was a switch on the front that had to be turned on for it to connect to anything wirelessly I flipped it, then ran the program to scan for access points again, and found the one coming from the computer down here, as well as a couple others that are somewhere near our house.

The signal strength was around 77%, so I figured there wouldn't be a problem. However, every time I tried to connect to it, the "Connecting..." window would close after a minute or so, and nothing would have changed.

I tried changing the security "method" on here, and even disabling the security completley, but nothing helped. I tried opening a command prompt on his computer, and typing "ipconfig", which gave an error message that was something like "Media is disconnected or disabled" I'd go upstairs and get the exact message right now, but my Dad's sleeping, and the computer's in his room.

Thinking about it now, I have to wonder if going into the Device Manager and looking through the appropriate items would prove that something required for his computer to connect to the wireless network is indeed disabled? Once again, I can't check right now, but as I see it, it's a possibility. I don't know for sure though, which is why I'm posting it here.

Note that his computer is running Windows XP Home, and I haven't yet checked any other statistics on it, although I know it's as good as, if not better than the one I'm using to type this It's a laptop as well, so if necessary, it can be moved down here, but I can guarantee he'll want it back up in his room once the problem is sorted out _¬

lololol Keyboard Scrolling
Sorry if the heading is confusing, first of all. This just started happening today, as well. I've also tested this in the only other browser on this computer (the Internet Explorer 7 beta), and it didn't happen in there, so I have to assume it's something with lololol. Anyways, the problem.

Using the up and down arrows to scroll through a webpage no longer works as it used to. Before it used to scroll smoothly, and now it simply jumps from line to line, as it would in Word, or a similar program. As well, mousing over some text and clicking gives me the flashing bar that shows where your text will appear if you were to press a key on your keyboard

This didn't start happening until I dropped the keyboard on the floor earlier today (well, technically yesterday), key side down I can't see how that would've caused this to start happening though.

I hope you understand what I'm talking about as well. Here's an easy way to describe it. Open a text file in Notepad or whatever program you prefer, and click somewhere in the middle of the text. See the little blinking bar (I know there's a proper name for it, which I can't remember right now)? Now, hold the down arrow on your keyboard. See how that blinking cursor moves line by line? That's what happens in lololol for me.

I actually can get the scrolling to work properly again, but that's only by first making the "Find as you type" bar appear, clicking in the textbox in it, then trying to scroll up and down

"Play Selection"
Assuming you're using Windows XP, open a folder on your computer with video files in it, and select more than one at a time. See the option that appears, labelled "Play Selection"? Well, I do too, except clicking it makes Windows open a couple "Move to..." dialog boxes, and once you close those, the files you selected will start playing in Media Player. Obviously the "Move to..." boxes shouldn't appear at all, so my question regarding this is what, short of a bug in my XP installation, is causing this to happen, and how can I fix it?

It's not so much of a problem as an annoyance, and it's easy to work around, so don't worry if you can't find an answer that question.

Considering Upgrading
It's not what to actually upgrade that I'm having a problem with here, but what exactly to buy. The first thing on my list is RAM, as 512MB is alright, but I'd prefer more. Anyways, my Dad brought home a somewhat old computer the other night, and after he went upstairs, I opened it up to see if there was anything in it that might be usable for this computer. I considered taking the hard drive, but then figured that'd be too easy of a thing for someone to notice that it had gone missing, so I left it in there. I did grab the RAM though.

After opening this computer up, and applying a frightening amount of pressure to both the RAM chip and motherboard, I now realize the incompatibility between an SDRAM chip and DDR RAM slot

I had originally planned to go out to Staples the next day and buy at least 512MB more, but now I'm glad I didn't. After doing a bit of searching, I found that even though a given motherboard can support one given type of RAM, there are even more restrictions as to what type can be used in it, or so I understand.

So my question to you now is this: The motherboard in this computer is an Asus A7V8X-X, and I know that because I have the box right in front of me What should I be looking for in terms of RAM? I'm not worried about the price right now either. I'll deal with that after I find out specifically what type I need.

I don't mean to make it sound like I can't be bothered to find that information out myself either. I have a pretty good idea of what I need, but I want to hear what someone else has to say first

I think that covers everything for now, and sorry for such a long post as well

Press F7 in lololol, that'll remove that text cursor from pages and should restore it to the behavior you want.

For your RAM issue, the manual or support web site should tell you all the types and speeds of RAM it supports.

Well, that's one problem fixed. Thanks for the quick answer, FreeDOS

As for what you said, HyperMackerel (I really want to type "HyperHacker", but that wouldn't really be right ), I tried looking on the site (which I'm assumng is asus.com), yet every time I do, I get a "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" error message I did, however, find what I think I'm looking for here, which is helpful enough.

I don't think I need to worry about the actual "where can I go to get what I want" step now either, as last night at work, Josh and Kevin were discussing what they were going to get for their computers next, and I said something about planning on upgrading as well, and that I still didn't know where I'd get what I wanted. Josh then got all serious, and said "Just wait until I have some room on my card. Then I can just order whatever you want online, and you can pay me back". He seemed rather insulted that I didn't go to him right from the start, but I think it'd be awfully weird to have someone come up to you, and say "can you order this and this from this site, and I'll pay you back?"

Anyways, the only thing that's really important about that is that I now don't have to worry about finding the cheapest store around here, but it'll still take a bit of searching online to find out whether the site he orders things from (tigerdirect.ca, I believe) is as cheap as he says it is

Either name is fine, asus.com loads fine for me, and Tigerdirect is reasonably priced and ships pretty damn fast.
