I want to try this stuff so I can change Mario's spin jump into a ground pound. Make the game more New SMB-ish.

Hmm...

What do you know already? Have you just been using game-specific editors so far, or have you messed with hex-editing? Do you already have any understanding of how ASM works?

If you've never messed with ASM coding before, you'd be better off trying to change something much more simple to start with. Go get Geiger's SNES9x Debugger and play around with it - that's the best advice I can think of.

That would be possible by taking advantage on the pointers of the Cape smash and the spin jump.

Well, if someone has made a possibly a perfect IPS patch that might enable ground pounds and did the ASM stuff that Resharper256 told me to do, then this could actually work.

Typical example of how one should not proceed when posting about an issue one has.

(1) The thread title was non-informative, if not deviative.
(2) Rather than asking any particular question, you just made a vague statement about what you want to do. This could either be (mis-, or I hope so)interpreted as a master-and-slave scenario ("I want more food. Now."), or suggest you think everybody has a particular interest in your ambitions. Only there's dozens of others with the same plans... they just didn't post about it as they had nothing to show.
The overall effect could be compared to me posting a thread with the topic "Mushrooms" and the contents "I am going to eat now." in General Chat. This might go through in LT, but I think you recognize the general absurdity to it.
(3) You gave no description of any particular problem you had.

If that sounded harsh of me, no offense... I just don't know how to explain it otherwise, and there were a lot of threads like this one in the history of the board already without anybody really doing anything against it.

Regards,

Did you even read what I wrote? I basically told you it would be too hard for a beginner and to try something more simple. Maybe in a few years you'll be able to handle it, if you keep learning, but if you're just looking for someone to do all the work for you, you've definitely come to the wrong place.

Ya know this forum wasn't really created to make "I want to do this with ASM, how to do it??" threads. It's for hackers to discuss advance hacking techniques and ask specific questions.

If you can use the existing ground smash routine, then you could just slam a compare in the routine that handles Mario's moveset and have it do your custom code (animation, possible pause in midair before the smash), when down is pressed. After you handle the initialization, the JSR to that routine should handle it all.

That is, assuming the ground pound routine isn't TOO hardcoded. If it sets the original ground pound animation in the routine, then you'd have to switch a few instructions around or make a copy of the routine to work around it.

All and all, it shouldn't be called "Megahardcoding"... Maybe a challenge for a beginner such as yourself, though.

Good luck getting it working.

EDIT: Ahahaha, I said suck instead of such at first. <3 Irony.

Closed. because you're not going to do jack shit.

And it's really bad when I can tell someone is a SMW hacker just based on post content and thread titles [WTF is MEGAHARDCODING]. really, I think Lunar Magic is corrupting brains [or perhaps stupid people just find their way here.]
