Hello, I've been trying so hard to hack this game since it was my favorite game when I was a little kid. Why is it that when I get up to a point in my level, why does everything go out of place? There's enemies everywhere and sometimes my ROM even crashes. Is there way to get around these problems without ruining my ROM? Thank you for any advice in advance.

Unfortunately you are Victim # 183 of that SMB2 editor. Don't feel bad I was # 159. The problem is that editor just is not complete and looks like it will never be finished. SMB2 is one of my fave games too, but unfortunately I've had to give up on hacking it since all SMB2 editors just aren't up to snuff. I suggest you use a different editor for a different game and save your self a lot of headaches. (edited by AlexAR on 05-12-06 03:45 PM) |

Your best bet is to use a different editor, or try to do it all my messing with the hex directly. By that, I mean use this link.
Eh, I (or someone else) will eventually clean it up a bit and add how the format works for sprites and levels. Also there are a few other editors for the game, which are located in the editor sticky at the top (they're just as buggy it seems, so hacking raw hex will be the most reliable - at least, once you figure out how it works). |

Indeed, a hex editor was my best friend while I was making LotBB2. I eventually learned the nature of most of the bugs and how to work around them (which I have long since forgotten), but I still found myself diving into the raw level/enemy data and patching things up by hand on a regular basis (you pretty much have to know the level format if you want to successfully use those "screen skip" objects). I remember shuffling a bunch of data around near the very end in order to squeeze in a few more levels...I think I ended up with less than 100 bytes free. |
