While running through Norfair in the room after the ball jumping part or the next you'll see those little red bugs that fly up in packs of 5 you can easily charge shot or Missile them to refill your health and continue on.

Getting a little demanding huh?
Anyway we'd help you but it seems everyones syuck in the same spot.
The only hint we're getting is that it seems to be somewhere in that area just under where you first enter the east side of Norair and hit the super-missile block.

Ah well, I'm having a blast with this so far!

I can get through this hack easily, ibj, and 1wj, I use ONLY a keyboard.....

... Of course I made the hack :p

Ah, don't take it the wrong way. I hate keyboards for control over console games like this in general. I assure you, you did an outstanding job.

I bet you are all stuck in the U. Here is a tip: Some blocks can be wall jumped off of becuase they have good grip. However, if you can't jump off certain blocks, check to see if there is somthing more to them.

Edited to remove false information.

Since the walljump thing was irritating me, I went and hacked some of the physics to be closer to the SM original.

Now that I'm playing the game, I'm not very far.. and those giant hoppers in Brinstar keep killing me in one or two hits. This is definitely not a hack for beginners.. but it is the best SM hack out of all the ones I've tried (this one, Limit, Legacy, Reverse).

Hey Cecil99, why are you playing the game in Chinese?

Does this mean that the patch works on the Chinese ROM also? That's good news.

(I myself patched the wrong version and have garbled graphics all over the place...)

I got fed up with this when I realized that you had to run through norfair while burning to death. It's just retarded. The secrets aren't clever; they're counterintuitive and stupid. The main path through the game is a ridiculous run-around that makes no sense. Imagine coming home after buying Super Metroid to find this "game" on the cart - the game everyone knows and loves would have been a miserable failure.

This hack isn't for people who enjoyed Super Metroid; it's for crazy people who have been playing it for 10 years nonstop and want to continue for another 20.

Good job spending two years on a game that will be enjoyed by 25 people at most.

Just re-registered for this message

This hack is godlike! If i would work at big N, I would instantly hire you for the next project. I'm impressed how much more data fits in this rom.
It plays like an original, absolutely amazing!

Just something I would change for the next version.
- The movement under water is way too slow... I constantly play with 150% gamespeed in those places.
- The Varia suite is too hard to find
- The "hint" after Kraid is misleading is imho misleading as you won't enter meridia for a long time.
- The hidden passage to get to "water crateria" and the lc's is also too hidden. (found it by accident as I've been hit by a shot..)

I don't know if it's just me. But in the violet part of crateria is one of those "red-flee-rock"s behind a red pirate, speed blocks and a power bomb, which is kind of imporant for progress. (I think you know what I mean) In my case the game froze when I blast the thing with missies, super missiles, ice-shots or charge-shots. Only with the powerboms it didn't freeze and I could go on.

And now I'm stuck... where's the hint to get through the LC ??? I only know the start.. up, up left. Or am I completly wrong? (got ice, charge, wall, hi-ju, hook, x-ray) If so this must be corrected as it's not possible to get back. to "normal-crateria"...)

ProtoK: Give up, the games not gonna work if you hack my hack, go jerk off or something.

dwyers17: thanks for your optinion, but alot of people seem to enjoy hells run

Exim: I will look into making varia a bit more clear, as for kraids tube, I'm planning on leaving that in bescides, you need to beat kraid to open the grey doors, so the player will beat kraid and then go for the new open doors

Is that really necessary Drewseph? I'd like to think someone as smart as you can restrain himself a little better.

Your hack is amazing, no one can debate that. But the player does have to be a bit of a Metroid freak to fully enjoy it and get the most out of it. Most players will and have struggled with its difficulty and pull their hair out in frustration..all the while STILL appreciating its complexity and completeness.

Most secrets are indeed clever..but not very clear. Most games, (and when I say games, I mean actual Commercial Retail Games) introduce the player to a feature/technique in a clear and simple puzzle...then build on those very techniques and puzzles until the player is comfortable. Now the player is prepared and ready for advanced super hard puzzles and feels satisfied when completing them.

You were working within the confines of an existing game..so of course, a tutorial for every new feature you added would not be feasible. But you have to realize that this situation will lead to motivated individuals to "level the playing field" and do what they must to..HAVE FUN. Which is the goal for any gamer. Yes, this is YOUR hack and no one will ever be able to take that away from you, but you cant blame people for doing what YOU have been doing for the last 2 years and modifying something for their pleasure.

And yes Im stuck too dammit..where the heck is that 3rd energy tank?

Ok got the power bomb, but now I need the grappling hook, but don't really know where it is. I do have one area on the map that I'm at, but its hard to figure out.

Right below me is a room, but I did bomb it and power bombed it, but nothing happens. Any suggestions.

This hack is pretty groovy, I congratulate you.

Don't particularly like the new physics, but they're plenty playable and I'm not having any major problems with that. I think I'm just bitter because you took away the nearly infinate freedom I'm used to. Which was a good idea on your part, darn you.

I don't particularly like guessing where grey doors will open up. I don't suppose there was some way you could've tinted them or something, eh?

And I think you could've stood to make more shotcuts open up as you get farther into the game. Especially near the beginning, where you have to run all the way across the world with each item you get, it'd be nice if there were some more direct routes back and forth opened up with each new layer of items.

Just got the power bombs, then got stuck in a whole lot of places where I should've had the high jump or space jump or something due to wall-jump skill and persistance with the ice beam. You know that the ceiling-hugging side-hoppers and desgeegas are pretty much free tickets to go wherever you want in a room once you get the icebeam, right? (So far that's just gotten me out of the bowels of Brinstar, dunno if I was supposed to have gotten out of there yet)

I can see how people would be confused by where to go in this game. The whole sequence down to the power-bombs felt like it couldn't possibly be where I was supposed to be heading. Bigtime sequence breakers will have trouble telling when they're heading past your first few layers of dead-ends for people who don't have the right items yet, and people who've never done it before will get freaked out when they hit things like Norfair.

Still an awesomely groovy hack, though. I don't suppose we can make thirty or so clones of you and get one of these released every month, eh?

The new jumping physics and gravity are just bad in my opinion, and can really ruin the whole experience for some players.

That aside, the difficulty of the game is very high and is much higher than anything in the original game. Tricky puzzles can take a long time to figure out and when I do I don't often have a sense of accomplishment, more like "I hope I don't have to do this again". While not impossible, the frustration level can be pretty high at times.

The level design is the best I've seen in any SM hack by far. No complaints here.

I hacked some of the original jumping physics back for myself because I wanted to be able to play through the game with SM physics and without using any kind of cheats (jumping or otherwise), since it was clear that Drewseph wouldn't and would just tell me off. Being able to wall jump normally like in SM does help a lot, and it doesn't "ruin the game" or make you able to sequence break.

It's not about sequence breaking or makign it impossibly tough, it's about making you feel like a beginner to the Metroid series, which I think drewseph's done a great job on. That Norfair run took me forever, but I got it. I do like the new wall jumping physics too, I kind of was always bothered that I could move up infinitely and easily with just one wall in the original. It didn't make much sense to me.

As you can see, I'm another one who's first post is in this thread. I signed up to say what I said above, and another thing here: "Kudos."

Man, I love this hack. Norfair's Hell Run to the Ice Beam was a blast, and quite possibly my favorite part. There is another part I've been working on for several hours. I just got the Speed Booster, and I've tried going everywhere (I managed to find the Spazer, btw), and I've fond several tanks (energy and otherwise), and I THINK I know where to go. It's this dark blue/purple area in Craeteria with all the mushrooms that leads to Mardia. I have:

Morph Ball
Bombs
Missles
Super Missles
Power Bombs
Grappling Beam
Charge Beam
Ice Beam
Spazer
Wall ump Boots
High Jump Boots
Varia

Any help?

And, here's a list of the things I like about this hack:
1) The original Metroid feel (it almost feels like the original with SNES graphics)
2) The stronger enemies
3) The new elevator areas
4) The new morph ball sprite
5) Hell's Run
6) The maze-like qualities
7) The new [super] missle tanks
8) The original ideas (the reflectors, etc)
9) The new Wall Jump (it feels like the other Metroid games)
10) The overall difficulty! It gives me something to think about in Spanish class
