You know what? I really... really... REALLY hate kung-fu scuba ninja pirates. They make Griff into Frosted Hunterflakes.

Many times.

..Okay, three hours of wandering in the lost caves or wtf ever. What way?

Griff needs to learn how to time his jumps, and he can be a kung-fu hunter.

As for the lost caverns, if you honestly give up, somewhere in this thread, were the first 6 directions, after that, just guess 3. It makes it a lot easier then guessing 9. The answer to the pattern is also on the same page.

You probably applied the headered patch on the unheadered rom, or vise versa.

If all else fails, try using ZSNES ////1.36/////

Has anyone tried the ZSNES WIP? If not, I will... I know that I wrote some valid code that read the controller inputs (nintendo's own routine did this bit) as part of a hack for SMW, that onyl worked on the latest ZSNES WIP, maybe this'll work on the WIP too.

A cool looking Poke-anthro. Cool.

In other news. Kung fu pirates, the Lost Caverns, and then that... thing?! GRAGH.

Okay, beat the ghost thing I forgot about, and I'm working to rebeat him, cause I forgot to save, again. But anyhow, has anyone else experianced a glitch where in the game over, it doesn't fade to white, but Samus just becomes mostly naked?

Okay, I'm at...

799/109/10/11, V/G suits, WJ/HJ boots, Ice, Charge, Wave, Grap, and Super speed. Where in the name of the lord is S-jaump, X-ray and Spazer? Can I get those yet?

Spazer is in crateria, which I gave thoroughly vague hints to solve.

X-ray is in Brinstar, and requires Speed Booster to get.

Go figure...

Okay, so I was looking for the Spazer and I fell through a hole near... hell, I forgot what it was, but it required speeding to go through a wall behind a red pirate guarding a crawl space. Anyhow, I didn't find s-z-t for the Spazer, but I found Guardian #3. I have all 3 in Carteria.

Still don't have Spazer.

...Drew...

I have just finished your hack. It has taken me 22 hours, which is a bit long, however, I have achieved an 89% completion rate, which I think isn't bad.

Some last thoughts I have:

Mother brain... People who never played SMetroid will never understand the play on the original story you did. If I remember correctly, it worked a bit differently.

The escape sequence was a bit long. When I finished, I had 5-6 minutes remaining.

....For the sake of it: OMFGKILLERGIANTMETROIDS

*ahem* Yeah. You really possess the knowledge of keeping the player at the edge of their seats. That's pretty rare for 2d/16bit games. Good job. SMetroid was pretty linear, this changes that.

Do you ever think the guardians are a bit hard, and take more time then anything else? Maybe with the acception of the bombs. It still took me a few more times then Im willing to mention.

Without further delay: THANK YOU SO MUCH! You have let me relive the 16-bit era. I thought it was gone forever. Games today really need this kind of challenge level.

To conclude, I really have no idea what to do now. Unreal Tournament is boring at this point, funny how you've changed that. . Thank you!

You really have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Super Metroid was about as open as a game could get, and still have a sense of direction. In terms of being linear, nothing will ever beat FFX, but Metroid Fusion comes pretty damn close.

Oh f-z-k!

I'm in a room that is L shaped and is two down, then two across under a sand pit with a Crozo Statue holding a power bomb. How the f-z-k do I get out?!

Eh. Okay, I just went back to a save state. Now that I have the X-ray, I might be okay.

Okay. Am I missing the Space Jump?

Ok... So I'm new to the board, but I am really really stuck on this game... I am having a tough time finding the last 2 guardians... Here is a list of all the ones I have so far:

Crateria: 3 guardians
Brinstar: 3 guardians
Maridia: 3 guardians plus 1 that leads to Tourian (so 4 total there)
Norfair: 2 on the right (east) side of Norfair

So when I go to Maridia to enter Tourian it tells me that I still need to diactivate 2 of them... I'm assuming there is one guardian in Norfair on the left (west) side left as I read previous posts, but I have been looking forever and I am going bonkers! I have all the important items as well as all the energy tanks and 3 reserve tanks...

Can anyone help me????

Thanks!!!!!

*EDIT*

I found the last one in Norfair in the obvious place where I never thought to look... Anyhoo, I'm still apparently missing 1 guardian.... I got all 3 in each area... Where have I forgot to look?

*EDIT*

Ok so apparently I did miss one in Norfair that I thought I had gotten.... Not too bright of me... Good thing I went back and double checked all the guardians I thought I found...

This hack is really something! I always considered Super Metroid to be the best 2D game out there in terms of atmosphere and the level design. The level design in this is twice as good as the original; I've never had to think so hard puzzle wise while playing any game before. I'm especially appreciative of the heightened difficulties with enemies, as they always seemed to be too lax and easy to kill in the other Metroid games.

All in all, thank you for making this Drewsepth! I started about 2 weeks ago, and (according to these tips) am basically looking for Crocmire to get Power Bombs.

P.S: I noticed alot of people are getting frustrated with the wall jumping. If you’re sucking at it, you’re probably forgetting to RELEASE the other direction in time. So when you’re doing a wall jump, and are against the wall you can't still be pressing that same direction once you jump again. I've had to quite literally drive in the habit of releasing the direction when I'm 60% close to the wall after a jump. I rarely screw up now. It's almost easier to do it with this hack than in the original; even more so with a keyboard.

k, dOOd, first off, I'd like to say AWESOME job with the hack. I like it but there are some parts that are way too hard. Like Hell's run. I can't survive long enough to get past visual range of the wall-jump spot.

So, maybe some advice on how to last long enough? waiting for those beetles takes too long and results in too much drain. Also, I loose like, 2 tanks of energy in the morph ball room...how do I get through that shit fast enough bro?

but to re-iterate, great hack man. refreshing. Totally a metroid sequel of it's own, man.

glad you like it. though killing the beetles while they are bunched together will refill your health faster than it gets drained, wait until full health then run like a madman and make your way through, this IS the most difficult part of the hack, no other time is more deadly. timming is everything
