Hmm.... tried everything possibel to get the game to work... and nothing works. Not even the Readme in both the Unheaded/Headed Zip files doesn't help much. Yes, I gotten the RIGHT ROM version... but, like I said, nothing works.

All I keep getting is this, then the game just doesn't start at all...

Looks like your using ZSNES 1.42. If you read the readme, it states not to use 1.42. And use 1.36 or lower, or Snes9X.

Uh, no. That's what happens if you don't have the right version. If you use ZSNES v1.42, then the graphics don't look right once you hit Zebes, but it plays alright (you just can't see what you're doing).

you have a BAD DUMP of the rom, you need to download an SMC that says [JU] and has a [!] at the end of the file name

Right rom, excellent dump... right file name. Dunno why nothing works. Tried SNES9x, horrible sound echos and scratches when the music plays.

Doing one to reach a high tunnel like the one in that acid room wasn't required in the original game. Honestly, i've never been really good at Samus's moves and this game has forced me to perfect moves i could only pull off from time to time in the original SM. It's a good thing.

I can remember when i first got to the area by the first power bombs that required the complex diagonal bomb jumping. I was thinking... you gonna be fucking kidding me. Now it's quite easy for me. After i beat this i'm sure i'll know how to pull off any Samus move.

Forte, if it's any consolation, I'm kaving the same problem you're having, only I'm using SNES9x 1.42 and 1.39. No idea why this is happening -- the ROM is fine if I'm playing regular Super Metroid.

Blah...

Ive been over every square inch of this entire map twice now, and still cant figure out where to go next

Just for the record, I have everything but Special Item, Screw Attack, Space Jump, Gravity Suit, and plazma beam...

If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be appreciated...

In laymans terms, where do I go!

So yeah, Katw and I have been pooling our efforts and have made it to Maridia.

I had a thought. If you were to have missed an energy tank on the way to Norfair the first time 'round (and not the one in the area of Brinstar near there) and you saved down there, wouldn't you be not only unable to get back up, but lacking the health to complete the run through Tourian for the ice beam?

YES!!!

I did it! I finally beat the game! Probably not the first but I am the first to post it on this board.

Drewseph I know I've prased you a lot during the corse of this hack (and that's saying something cause I usually find something bad in a hack (which by the way while playing I only found 3 very small bugs)).

But this isn't empty praise you have gone beyond the levels of metroid. Hell you've gone beyond the levels of Rom Hacking itself! Example even my favorite rom hacks I was still able to beat them in one to three days max. This hack has made me play for two weeks playing it most nights and thinking about it during all of school. No side scrolling game has EVER done what this hack has.

The levels despite their sheer size ironicly don't get boring or tedious every part of the world is blended or focuses on a perticular tile-set that if it wern't for the music you wouldn't know you were still in the same world. Speaking of worlds you also managed to give each a particular theme to each. And I don't mean Plant World, Fire World, Water World ect. ect... No I mean Crateria and Brinstar had a sort of search theme to then, Norfair had a puzzle theme, Maridia had an exploration theme and Torinian..........I'll let you figure that one out for yourself .

As for difficulty... Well you we're treading on the fine line between normal and imposible which is what we strive for here. Like you've said before the people who get so lost and find it extrmely hard to find the items are the people without the desire to think for themselves and/or explore (which I'm not saying that that's a really bad thing being that I've asked for a bit of help here and there on this thread ^^;;. Although I will however stick to this and say that Torinian is complete overkill.

All in all this is one of the best-..... No... THE best rom hack I have ever played in my entire life. And I seriosly think that 1) More people should know about this and/or 2) you should think about somehow getting in touch with Nintendo with this thing becase I know of a few hacks that are better that the originals but this is better that the original and better than anything else they've put on the market today.

If there is something like this here nominate this guy for like "Rom-Hacker of the Year" or "Best Rom-Hack Ever" awards or something cause this is the best one here. Not only did you start off Super Metroid hacking with a bang but you have paved the road and probably inspired many to start Super Metroid Hacking. You are a god among Rom Hackers. Congradulations.

Also if anyone cares these are my stats at the end of the game.

time --- 15:33
items --- 63.5%
ending --- 3rd

Yes I also managed to free the little animal guys.

Unfortunately, it is possible.
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/super_metroid_moves.txt

"Speed Ball"

Ive never been able to pull it off. Iv been searching for a video of someone doing it, but have had no luck. Does anyone have a link?

Also, Ive noticed that the game freezes up kinda regularly when you bomb an area in which you cant see yourself and can't get out of ball mode. (Behind the foreground)

Nothing to really worry about. Ive given this hack so much praise I felt I had to say something negative. lol If there is such an award of Best Hack, hands down this wins. This is the best hack Ive played in at least 3 years.

I like this so far. I do. Best ROM hack ever? I don't think so... good though? yeah.

I've been looking forward to this thing forever. SM is one of my favorites. But this in my opinion hardly lives up to the original.

What I like: Much bigger areas, well placed items and well put together maps. I was so giddy when I got lost for the first time . I like how to explotation is broken down a little. Making people earn the high jump boots is nice. The graphics match the original stlye and fit in very well. The boss rooms kick ass. Fighting the chozo statue in a foggy room was much better then the tiny square room of the original. The physics, while taking some getting used to, are done well. They aren't better then the original, nor are they worse.

What I don't like: Firing twenty times at a crawlie is just annoying. The enemies have just a wee bit too much strength. And their placement sometimes land cheap hits on Samus. I know everybody and their sister has praised you to no end on level design but seriously... this may be surprising but rooms filled with water, spikes and grabbie enemys aren't as original as they may seem to be. I wasn't as irritated with the hard ass jumps but the spikes are ridiculous. Spikes here, spikes there, SPIKES EVERYWHERE! It's a bit much honestly. Some say this is borderline impossible, I say this is borderline cheap.

Now I'm not gonna bash this much because I still enjoy playing it and have not finished it yet. But so far it seems to be just a little above average and I have hope that it will get better.

Obviously Drewseph wanted to make it more difficult then the original. What else could someone do to increase the difficulty using the resources already in the rom other then stuff like putting more spikes and increasing the damage of enemy hits?

In terms of level design, agian, using the resources of the rom you can only use so many different textures. What makes the level design so smart and original is the way that the obstacales were set up, not it's visuals.

Spikes everywhere? Dunno what you're on but there are 3 easily avoidable patches of spikes in crateria, none in maridia or tourian, a few spikes in norfair, mostly IN lava.

Brinstar is the only area with lots of "thorns" I say thorns cause they do less damage than spikes do, and they are generally easy to avoid, don't jump full height and you'll be safe

He is kinda right, though. This hack IS far too hard to really be in theme... But obviously not because of that. And the level design, while quite good, has its problems... You should never really require the most obscure of knowledge to get through things, and yet you do... And often times, getting to items (especially when you need to shinespark through several rooms to do it) is just stupidly difficult. Fortunately, the main path is fairly straightforward and up to where I am (hunting the entrance to Ridley's lair), the most advanced thing required on the main path is shinesparking, but... Eh. And then some things are just ridiculous. There's no reason you should have to jump into the air, morph, and then sequentially bomb every section of the ceiling in order to advance. You know what I'm talking about

I must give kudos to you on creating something very fun, but yeah, it's not nearly as good as some are saying.
