Sabata grumbled, as he pulled his brother's coffin from inside the mansion they had just 'liberated' from the Immortals. The battle had, unfortunately, been quite a difficult one. Django, having been forced into his vampire form, had barely managed to destroy the Undead boss... and now, they had to return to San Miguel, where they'd locate the next enemy.

Sighing, he stopped in a large clearing, watching the sun. Sitting on the coffin, he had this feeling of dread... but it was nothing, he presumed.

Now where was Otenko?!

"Nice coffin there. I'm sure the owner would love it."

Sabata had failed to notice the figure that had been watching him through his trials in the mansion. Stepping now from the shadiest region of the trees, but still avoided blantant sunlight, was a pale, thin boy. He had black hair and makeup, and otherwordly glowing green eyes. He blended well into the shadows, as his entire costume consisted of a black coat with a tail that stopped at his calves, underneath which was a dark, laced shirt. He also wore ebony gloves, and black pants and boots with all sorts of silver zippers and buckles, which seemed to serve no purpose in their placement. And, of course, around his neck was an ankh, the symbol of life after death.

Jack: "Sorry, I just couldn't help but intrude on an interesting character such as yourself. Were you with the vampire in there?"

Jack's unearthly eyes lit up with excitement. He compelled Sabata to answer...

Sabata scowled, as he saw the boy come out of nowhere... something which he should not have failed to notice. Worst of all, the boy was giving off a nasty feeling to him, something which was a darn reminder... one of his father...

"He does... but what is it to you?" he snarled, trying to not get angrier. Unfortunately for him, the kid seemed intent in doing so.

"What does it matter? Do you think I killed him?" he asked, suspicious. If the boy was just an average lucky idiot, he would think that... but if he stated something different, well...

Jack calmly waved his hands.

Jack: "Whoa, whoa, calm down now. Is it wrong to admire artwork such as this?"

He offhandedly motioned to the coffin.

Jack: "Wish I had one like that. Mine was just a wretched old box... and no, I have no idea who he is, so I certainly don't think you killed him."

A malevolent looked passed Jack's eyes.

Jack: "Didja?"

Sabata didn't reply to the first question, although someone who found a coffin to be 'artwork' was likely creepy... but hey! There were all sorts of nuts in this world, right?

It was his second comment that made him uneasy. "'Yours'? You mean to tell me... you had a coffin before?" he asked, trying not to reveal the anger in his voice. Was that another Immortal? If so, they were in serious disadvantage as-is...

He broke off his thoughts, however, when he noticed he had asked him something. He was about to lie when he noticed the look in his eyes... one that was even more uneasy...

"No... I didn't. Otherwise, why would I be bringing this coffin with me?" he asked, his expression nasty as well.

Jack raised his eyebrow to Sabata's own callous expression, and casually sauntered forward.

Jack: "Alright, I see that you're touchy on the subject - most people are about death. Sorry I asked. It's just that you looked so suspicious there for a moment.

Jack arrived at the end of the coffin opposite Sabata, and leaned on it with his elbows. He stared the whole time in an unnerving manner.

Jack: "This person was probably close to you, hm? A friend, or a family member? Must be tough for you.

He shifted in place, and his eyes gleamed excitedly.

Jack: "I could bring this person back. Just for you. I could bring him right back from the dead. All with a functioning mind and spirit, not just a zombie, you know... how does that sound?"

Sabata gasped, as he heard what the odd boy was saying. Could he really-? But... "You... you can bring back people from... from the beyond?" he asked, taking a step back. Memories from his past actions came to mind... but then, he noticed just who it was that this person meant to bring back.

"Ah... you must have confused yourself here..." he explained, but one hand was lying on his Gun del Hell, now on guard.

Jack laughed slowly, and stood up from the coffin.

Jack: "I'm telling the truth. I could find the soul in the Netherworld and return it for you. What, you need proof? I'm dead myself. I used to be a Grim Reaper, so it would be easy for me."

He tapped his fingers on the coffin.

Jack: "This offer won't be here forever. You know you want to see him again... maybe just to say goodbye once more."

Sabata snarled. "He's not dead... and even if he was, I would never do such a deal for him...

He unholstered the Gun del Hell and delivered a single shot... more as a warning than anything... a shot that would be aimed only at his feet for now... "So, you are a servant of the Darkness? Or just of the Netherworld?" he asked, trying to ignore the seductive voice he had.

Jack's dark coat whirled as he quickly stepped back from the coffin, and shot Sabata a spiteful look. The warning came across clearly.

Jack: "...I see. No, I'm no servant of Darkness or anything - I'm not committed to any force, other than my own. As for the Netherworld, I've got no friendly ties there whatsoever. Still, darkness does have some appealing qualities..."

Jack nonchalantly observed his black nails while resting against a tree stump. That's when his entire hand darkened like a shadow, and his own shadow expanded dramatically across the clearing, transforming into the silhouette of a winged creature with curvy horns and a spiked tail. Jack looked at his shadow curiously, acting like he didn't intend to change it.

There was no harm in this strange action - really, Jack was just taunting Sabata for thinking him evil. Not that he was entirely wrong...

Sabata pulled Django's coffin a bit farther, so that it was away enough from both him and the stranger, and pointed the Gun del Hell at him again. "Fine... that much, I'll believe - after all, you had no reason to attack me. But..." he motioned towards the shadow, "if all you're going to do is preach to me about the nature of darkness, I'm telling you to cram it."

He seemed to be pulling the trigger slowly now. "The darkness is as innate in me as is the light... even if stronger. I am not afraid of it... and thus, I'm not afraid of you."

"But what will you do, then?"

Jack grinned at Sabata's gun, staring straight into the barrel.

Jack: "There's more to be afraid of in this world than the dark, fleshy, and I'll show you just that. ...What is your name, by the way? I shall like to know what I will be carving on your epitaph!!!"

Jack's shadow rushed forward across the ground, now changed into a freeform blob tied to his body only by a thin dark line. Upon reaching Sabata, it changed back into its enormous demon shape and clawed furiously at Sabata's shadow. This would actually harm Sabata himself, in a way draining his life force more than inflicting physical damage.

At the same time, Jack drew his crooked dagger from his cloak and twirled it in his hand.

"For someone who's seen all kinds of nightmares, that sounds a lot like telling a simple fact to a child," Sabata replied, just as he saw the shadow begin to move. He shot off a few shots, a moment before hopping away from the shadow, his own only being touched for a second then... but still enough to make him wince, if it had attacked him.

The shadow twisted and wobbled when the shots hit it, but there was no significant damage done. There must be a trick to hurting it...

As his shadow swirled around Sabata to continue its assault, Jack charged forward. When he cleared half the distance to his opponent, he made a high flip into the air, and at the peak of his jump launched his dagger down. The blade, which glew with bright blue flames, homed into Sabata as if it had a mind of its own, aiming to stick itself directly into his heart. If he were to deflect the knife, it would obediently fly back into Jack's hand.

Jack landed on a high tree branch and swung around to hand from it like a bat.

Sabata grasped a tree branch, and climbed over it easily, but then he noticed the dagger coming to him. He quickly fired a Spread, blocking the dagger for a few seconds, which would be enough to force it away. Then, once he saw Jack gripping his own branch, he fired two shots at him, hoping to get him with it.

The shadow, unable to get off of the ground to reach Sabata, sulkily returned to the space beneath Jack and took its normal form. Meanwhile, Jack let go of his grip on the branch, the bullets chipping the bark off of the tree where he just was, and landed skillfully on the limb below. He then held out his hand and snatched the dagger that came whizzing back to him.

Both fighters were now facing each other on boughs of equal height. With one hand, Jack charged a green energy ball, and with his other he pointed at Sabata's branch (his dagger floated at his side). Out of his fingertip then came a jet of fire that hit Sabata's platform, and the fire spread rapidly, eating it up and threatening to burn Sabata as well...

Sabata hopped at a higher branch, holding onto a single hand for now, firing a few shots at Jack, trying to strike the green energy sphere.

One shot hit Jack's hand, and he withdrew it in pain. The death ball he was charging failed. Sucking on his hand, Jack glowered at Sabata.

Jack: "Just wait for this...

He swiftly leapt up and grabbed onto a higher branch, and from there flipped up to another that was at Sabata's height. Upon landing, he immediately held his palm forward to his enemy's head.

Jack: "Surprise!!!"

Some white mist shot out of his hand at Sabata! Other than smelling strange and tickling one's nose, it didn't seem to do any harm at all. Jack hoped to cover Sabata with the stuff so he'd inhale it.

Sabata had gotten up as Jack had begun his monkey play, but wasn't ready for his trick. "Gwah!" he gasped, as he breathed some of the mist, in his attempt to hold air... but, in compensation, Jack was at a perfect position to be hit by a Spread. If he hit, Sabata would hold it until his foe fell off.

Jack was hit by the spread straight in the chest, and toppled off his branch down to the grassy meadow, landing with a thump. Lying frozen on the ground, he was still pleased with what he'd done, and looked up to watch his damage take place.

The chemical Sabata had inhaled was a hallucinogen, and it suddenly kicked in. To his certain terror, the woods around them transformed into a horrifying caricature of its former self! The trees twisted around each other and the leaves turned to fire. The branch that Sabata was standing on even appeared to shift into a squirming snake! Hideous demons of all sorts now buzzed around the treetops, snarling and snapping at Sabata and then burning up in the inferno. Amidst all of this madness were loud, pained screams that didn't come from anywhere in particular, but just from inside Sabata's head, which subdequently began bleeding profusely.

Jack, down on the forest floor, staggered up. He was transformed, too, into a disgusting skeletal figure wearing a torn black reaper's hood.

Jack: "You're looking shaky up there. Watch your step!"

It's important to remember that all of this was an illusion, and it didn't truly harm Sabata at all... even though he could imagine that it did.
