Do you think it is right to have to register for the draft at 18? PLUS the fact that women don't have to...

You don't exactly have control over where you are born...

It's like, Decide before you are an adult whether or not you want to stay in our wonderful country, or sign stay and sign up to kill yourself....

Now... I understand that a draft is unlikely, but still, image that there would be one when YOU turn 18... [Even if you are already, you still have signed up].

I think a mandatory draft is good and bad. Mainly because of the awesome pension for serving your tour of duty, but also because being in the military sharpens your senses, gives you discipline, and the like.

But on the other hand, who should tell you what to do? No man or woman has the right to control what you do, no matter who they are. Rightly, nobody should govern someone elses actions, in any way.

It's just a matter of perspective. Are you a pacifist, or do you love to fight?

Well... those are good points... And, does GT Final Bout addict count as fighter?

Jomb, I hope we don't have a draft, I'm in pretty good physical shape [I body build] and they might need me... lol.

Well, war with Iran (for sure if Russian and/or China get involved) will probably mean a draft. I have no intention to fight in such a war.

What annoys me about the draft, is that they know I'm over 18 and male to complain at me if I don't register, but they can't use that same database to just send me a draft notice when nessicary instead of making me register. And why do I have to register to vote? Why can't I just go to the polls and show my ID? I have a Social Security card, state ID, birth certificate, voter registration card, and birth certificate, why do I need a draft card?

Actually, my draft card disappeared a long time ago. So, if I ever intend on burning it, I'll be searching for awhile first.

I used to think I was exempt from being drafted anyway, being an only son. But, this is just a myth. I guess I'll have to start working on becoming morbidly obese.

Yes... it's brilliant! Becoming a convicted felon is obviously the BEST way to get out of the draft. Nothing like getting rid of most of your freedoms.

Rom Manic: The main issue with a draft would be that in order to GET that pension, sharpened senses, discipline, etc. you have to be alive afterwards. If you aren't, it kinda defeats any gains you may get.

No listen, its a great idea, we'll all get our ROM collections together and take them to the FBI and DEMAND to be charged and arrested
Thats how we stick it to the man!

Ahh, the joys of being half-deaf and dependent on glasses to se shapes from seven feet away. Hey, if you're unfit for military service, dio you still have to sign up for the draft?

Isn't that a civil matter? I don't think the FBI has much to do with it if it's not being distributed...

*L* Like i said, i dont remember whether i signed up for it or not, i really dont remember doing it. I was'nt always unfit for military service, there were about 4 years where they could have snagged me if they really wanted to... they used to constantly call me and harass me to join whatever branch of the military. I got a couple free meals out of it!
How about we just put all our ROMS online, then DEMAND we be charged arrested, and given probation! Actually, i dont have to worry about it anymore anyways

You got free meals? I just got irritating phone calls...

As for conscription/a draft... I hope not. I seriously hope not. I'm not good for combat.

I remember the day that I signed up for the draft, took teh asfabs, etc. Local guard recruiter had a hard on for me. My dad was pissed right off (ex-marine). If I even thought about joining my father would have broken my legs. Personnaly, I don;t like the draft. I have this issue with travelling to a foreign nation to kill someone on his own dirt. But I also would defend MY nation from invasion or attack. Its called a MILITIA.

<What he said, with the addition of I don't wanna fight this war because I think Bush was a retard to start it.

[Beneficii: Fixed the angle bracket so it could display. Thanks for pointing that out Thexare. ]

I'm going to act like a mod, but... don't do that. Quote + no content = FAIL.

The issue with militias is that nowadays they're associated more with radicals than with legitimate defense. That, on its own, is rather dangerous. For instance, you could always volunteer to join a cult, but no matter how benign it may be, if it's called a cult, it's automatically considered bad.

That, and most people are armed HOW well? I think the answer would qualify as "not very". Feel free to take your little band of random people against any trained military. I'm sure you'd have a fun time.

Figured I'd point out that he did say something, but he used an angle bracket which hid it - I think this was unintentional, since he didn't use a normal comment tag.

I would have medical deferments for a draft, likely... Still though, it's a scary thought, I don't think there should be a draft unless United States territory is in direct danger of military invasion...

I'm not too fond of the draft either, but 4 more years then I'm out of the draft loop for the rest of my life...unless law makers do something to change that

well, given how Jr. Bush's ratings are going, any announcement of a draft will surely not bode well for the public. Although, I don't remember the attitude for the draft for Vietnam...
