I know you can rip backgrounds by saving a screenshot on Znes, but when you do that, can you put it into yy-chr, and make it a ExGFX.bin file then put it in the map 16 page? Would that enable me to create my own BG?

Because if so... then watch out! I will have a butt- load of beautiful BG coming your way...

I'm not sure, if you can inport it in YY-CHR (because I never used it), but it's possible to import bmp's in TLP. In fact, I used that method mostly every time, if I wanted new GFX in my hack, but it's not perfect, because even if you save the BMP to have only 16 colours before importing it in TLP, there are still some colours "missing", so normally you have some work to do to set everything up right again. (Maybe there is another and better way, but that's the only one I know for that.)

Umm, you CAN open savestates in YY-CHR, but all you get is garbage (unless the game has no compression, in which case you wouldn't need to rip it from a savestate) You neeed to use BGmapper177 (search http://www.zophar.net/ a bit) and after you have the program open hit "0" then select "export Vram graphics" after you've done that, open the resulting file in MSpaint, (or Paint shop pro) and copy and paste the standard size GFX\ExGFX file into a copy of an existing GFX\ExGFX file (not allgfx obviously) then insert it into lunar magic, then to rip the pallete, open a second instance of Lunar magic, and import the savestate from which you ripped the gfx, then locate which pallete the BG uses, and use the ctrl+click feature to copy from one instance of Lunar magic to the other. Now just map out you background on an empty map16 page and you're done. (I know it may sound confusing, but after you get the hang of it, it's really quite easy)

Like Xeruss said, I strongly recommend BGMapper. It's probably your best choice for backgrounds. It can also rip FGs from games too (thats how I got some from YI)

Now if only it could do sprites

When you open a ExGFX.bin file in YY-CHR that was used for the BG... it comes up in YY-CHR... I was wondering if replacing it could do something...
