My first problem comes from this: Opening my Uncharted Waters: New Horizons ROM I found that the text isn't compressed ; while messing a bit with the text I found that I could change the text as long as my new text was exactly the same length or shorter. The fact is I would want to write some longer text in a few places but the text is packed in too compact blocks, so I can't manually write longer text than the original without messing badly with the ROM. So what would I have to do be bale to have longer text strings? ROM expanding? Pointer hacking? Something else?

Second question (less complex one): I need to do some basic text changing in FF6 and the only editor that exists for that seems to be the one by Yousei(the hacked and updated one) but I'd like to know if it's stable enough to edit text since I read some parts of it were notorious for damaging ROMs.

Last one, how can I change the content of the chests in FF6? Is it done by Hex or ASM? And in either case is there a list of the offsets to do that? I haven't found anything yet to help me with this ; it doesn't seem to be possible but I'd like to be sure.

Any input gladly appreciated!

Edit: It seems there is a typo; it's supposed to be FF3/FF6j in the title.

I think I can answer the first one, but don't take my word too seriously... From what I understand, you mainly just have to repoint the text to a blank spot in the ROM. If there is no blank space long enough for the text, you'll have to expand it. Of course, if the text doesn't work with the display system (I'm guessing there's some way to fit long strings onscreen native to the game), then you'll have to do something more drastic, but that seems unlikely.

As far as I saw, Youhei's editor was stable enough to handle changing text without damaging the ROM. You'll want to keep making backups while you're working with it, though.

Thank you both for your input!

All I need now is some form of info on the FF6 chests and how to change their content.
