In Megaman X4, Sigma was again, behind everything. I thought that plot was AWESOME. First you fight King Dragon in the Prelude. Then Repliforce gets blamed, Repliforce wars, You fight Repliforce, and so on... Then you go on to fight those hard bosses again, then Sigma. X4 overall was a really fun game.

However, in X5, you get parts, no cutscenes, no immediate armor, the sprites are sharper, etc. The game was okay... but how many here grew tired of having to fight Sigma again? Sure, he had a REALLY hard to beat final form, but, I would like to see something new, with a shocker, like... Oh WOW, I thought it was Sigma, but it was really, say, Axl from X7? THAT would be cool.

As for X6, this is like a FREAKIN awesome version of X5, with a shocker, you thought Gate was the final boss. But really, Sigma came back, and since he was easy, the end was easy to beat, and since Gate wasn't last, Gate was ALSO easy, therfore making the game [Besides High Max and Nightmare King] easy.

What are your thoughts? Do YOU want someone other than Sigma? [Sigma goes ALL the way into X8.] What are your opinions on the plot of Megaman X?

I think X5 was the peak of the series. The high-resolution stills were much better than the overly compressed cutscenes with bad voice acting. The mystery surrounding Dr. Wily and the homages to the old games were also a nice touch (The layout of the first final stage is the same as Quickman's stage, and then you face the Yellow Devil). X6 felt too frustrating and there was too much focus on the whole collect-a-thon part.

I didn't play X6 far enough to reach the end... if nothing else, Metal Shark Player's level left a bad taste in my mouth.

X5 was fun... and what Gecko mentioned about the original series references was pretty good... but for some reason, it all got forgotten in the sequels. It's disappointing.

Although, on another note, lighting Sigma's cloak on fire in X4 was incredibly amusing.

I don't usually post here, I am more the lurker, but I felt the need to for this thread.. You see, as I recall, X5 was in fact intended to be the last of the X series. Truth be told, that was how it was written and intended, but.. Capcom was not willing to let the series die, and despite the original authors wishes, they continued the series by placing someone else in the drivers seat in his place..

I don't have a source, as it was quite some time ago that I read it and I'm too lazy to dig it up, but I'm pretty positive this is accurate.. This is also why the series went downhill so steadily fast after X5 - it was never meant to go beyond there, and with them obviously milking it and the original genius behind the X series no longer in power, there is of course only going to be more crap spewing forth.

Thank you for that great piece of info... but I have to disagree. X6 I say was the high point. It was MUCH harder than the others. The collect-a-thon as you call it, can be a bit frustrating, cuz if you miss a reploid, you could lose a valuable part... but it was fun.

I seemed to have always gotten the parts in X6... Metal Shark Player's level was only hard with the nightmare effects activated (i.e. Side scrolling, conveyor belt, nightmare blocks, and ice. fwew.).

The ponderously hard part was High Max's level... and Nightmare King as a boss. Also High Max if you didn't know how to beat him.

Besides that, that info from Sage of Time, that would explain a lot.

And Bio, yea, that was awesome... hard if you played as X though. . There is a X vs. Zero in X6, but Zero is merely the nightmare, and you can defeat him by using the X-Saber.

I actually never finished X5, and did not bother with any other X game there after, I was not willing to sit through the series any longer, I predicted bad things and.. it seems I was very right. I may pick up X5 again one day, and perhaps even X6.. But nothing else from then on seems interesting to me.

It wasn't that X6 was hard, because if you knew what you were doing it really wasn't. It was just horribly tedious and had the worse level design than your average Super Mario World hack, which meant that you tended to die a lot.

Another interesting fact is that Inafune originally wanted Zero to be the main character for Megaman X, so MMZ is basicly how he originally wanted the X series.

Actually, Metal Shark Player's level is REALLY hard if you go the wrong way without the right part, since it then decides to save your progress at a point where you can do nothing but jump off the side and die. Fun, right? And SO easy to get past if you don't know it's there...

...Of course, I do rather like the two opening songs for X6. "Moonlight" and "The Answer" both have a happy home on my computer... Even if a full song got condensed to roughly 10 seconds on the game itself.

Oh, and the one main complaint people make about X6... why the hell did they put a move in which Zero attacks straight down onto up+square (circle?)? Makes it INSANELY frustrating to try to get past the little hanging bars while attacking things.

I actually agree with you, I didn't like X4 anywhere near as much as the three prior installments.. The voice overs, cutscenes, and a few other aspects really did more to hinder the game than help it. It wasn't terrible like the latter installments seem to be now, but it wasn't great either.

Eh, I usually don't hit these threads up, but after you said X6 was a good game I was SHOCKED!! Megaman X6 was the second most disappointing megaman game I have ever played (the frist being megaman X7). C'mon! The level design got SMACKED together in a day, I swear. Some of the feats in some of those levels were not thought out clearly cuz the last levels are IMPOSSIBLE without certain upgrades. The boss design - OH MY GOSH THE BOSS DESIGN IS HORRENDOUS!! Seriously, the bosses are way to friggin' easy, which makes the game no fun. Who wants some ridicuolously hard levels with an easy boss at the end??? Just like those SMW hacks..... Anyway, I have seen all the sprite sheets for the Megaman X games and X6 has the least animations in the entire series. Look at Blaze Phoenix errrr... Blaze Heatnix for crissakes. EVERY maverick from the SNES saga looks better than that punk!!!!! ADSHFADF They didn't even translate the names man!! The music is some of the worst techno I have ever heard, hands down. There are only 2 or 3 good tunes from this game, and the rest are utter CRAP!!! I could make a song the sounds better than Ground Scaravich's level with my music maker in 5 minutes! Let's not forget that the story in X6 contradicts the other megaman games, by the way. The only cool thing from this game is zero, with the beam sabre looking more realistic. I only own this game and X7 just to have them in my video game collection. I NEVER touch them. As a matter of fact, my friend came over the other day and was instantly hooked like crack to megaman. He wanted to play X6 (cuz he thought X4 was so cool and all) and I told him that if he ever touch that game he might as well be selling his soul to Satan the game was so bad. Eessshhhhh.....
And yes, I own and have beaten every megaman game in existance so don't bother telling me that I'm wrong.

The new art was inconsistent and didn't fit in cause they used a new artist. You can clearly see the difference when using the sabre with X. And don't call something Techno when you are absolutely clueless on what it actually is.

I disagree with your condemnation of X6. It's not the best game in the series, but it's not totally worthless, either. Only a few of the levels had design that really angered me (The dragonfly and the ice wolf), and the last level was supposed to be way too hard, that's sort of the point of it being the last level. It makes up for how all the other levels were very easy after you knew how to beat them. The bosses aren't as easy as you say, especially the first couple of tries against things like High Max. Less animations and lack of translated names are purely visual flaws, and they detract very little, if any, from the fun of playing the game. The music is not techno, but arguing someone's music preference is futile, so besides that correction I won't try. I always thought some of the appeal of the X series came from trying to untangle the storyline, so contradictions are my friend.

Hey, can I have the soul of your friend? I'm not Satan, really.

Incidentally, how did you beat it without ever touching it? I'd like to hear about that sometime.

METAL. SHARK. PLAYER. His level has a GIANT PIT that you can't cross without a certain powerup, and if you go there, it saves to the platform RIGHT BEFORE the giant pit so you can't go back. Do you have ANY idea how irritating it is to have to jump into the same pit however many times JUST to get the chance to continue the level?

...The translation was abysmal. I just feel like saying that again. Although it did make some of Sigma's comments funny...
