I am what you would call One of the Wise Men of RPG Maker (well to an extent). I know how to do... well, quite a lot. Not everything, mind you, but I've been using RPG Maker 2000-XP for years... XP being the most recent. Ask me a question (how to do a certain event, how to fix a certain problem, what does what do, etc.) and I'll try to get back to you on it.

I will list very helpful Q&A's on this post. So, go ahead, ask away!

Note that I will not always be able to answer a question but I'll try my best.

Also note that I'm not very experienced with battle systems, but experienced with day/night systems and similar things.

Check the thread for some questions that have been answered. I might create an FAQ for these eventually.

You mean the screens? Yes. Although this isn't exactly in-game so I can't give you a proper explanation. Try looking on Google for it, because I remember coming across programs or patches that do that sort of thing. I can't entirely remember the name... although what program are you using? 2000, 2003, or XP? I think I only saw a 2000 one. Hope that helped, at least a little.

... If you want to make a good RPG Maker game, a good ROM hack, or even make your own game, you're going to have to learn how to be patient and work with what you have and learn how to use it. If not, sorry, but you'll have to forget about it. It just won't work.

There's a huge-ass difference between the two. I'm sure the differences are extremely noticable.

RPG Maker XP does not cost money.

1) Three layers for editing.
2) Actual programming code allows you to do more with your games... you can do almost anything to it 2D RPG style... even more than that.
3) More new features and better graphics and resolution.
4) Some features have been removed which kind of sucks...
5) You can import MP3s and other special files freely, and character and tilesets can be ANY size.
6) Much, much, much more.

Yes, it does... RPG Maker XP is not a free program; therefore, does cost money. You did know that... didn't you...?

It does cost money, but there is that cracked version which is exactly the same, only free.

Here is the website to the one that costs. HERE!

Search google for the cracked one.

Okay yes, yes, I know it costs money. But look, we're at a ROM HACKING BOARD aren't we? So why are you two bringing money into the matter? I haven't even heard of a person who bought this program.

Okay Aurxix, if you wanna be an angel go buy the program.

There's really no need to... actually... get upset about it, really. I was just pointing out a true fact. RPG Maker XP isn't anything near related to roms; in actuality, related to creativity.

It's not a free program, but is out there available for download. That was all I was saying...

I know. I didn't mean to offend you, it just made me feel like you both thought I was stupid or something. I'm just saying that we're at a board where we're downloading illegal programs (ROMs) and hacking them, which infringes quite a few laws. I know what you're saying though. Sorry if I put you on the wrong track.

Although this thread is starting to get a little off-topic so let's bring back some more questions, please.

What the hell do you mean by a walk-behind? ... Do you mean layers in which an object (such as the top of a tree) will appear in front of your character? If so, go to database -> tilesets and edit the tile to a star. That is, if you're using 2000 and 2003. I haven't done any work on that with XP but it's probably the same (other than the fact that there's a bunch of numbers on the stars and I haven't used the tileset thing in RPG Maker XP for that long to know what they mean yet).

Either he's talking about that or when other characters walk behind the main one... I don't know how to do that myself but it can be done either through scripting or by some common events.
