It's the same hardness as the regular stuff, though

I'm thinking that like a number of people, he extends the graphite a bit too far out from the tip of the mechanical pencil. Which will cause it to break relatively easily.

The other thing about pencils in college is that few of the classrooms have pencil sharpeners, so you have to either bring your own or use mechanical ones.

edit: well, that's true of MY college, not sure how other places are.

Same here. I have yet to come across a classroom that had a sharpener in it.

It would be easy to bring your own but at times there really isn't no time to stop, get up, sharpen pencil, come back. You could always bring a handful of already sharpened pencils but those don't last long. The point always break before you use it.

Exactly. And that is why nonmechanical pencils suck.

Unless you get one of those cheap mechanical pencils that simply eat up and destroy the graphite before you use it.

Those are just awesome.

They're even better when they have those ridiculous plastic things that go inside the pencil a short ways before clicking the graphite out, that the erasers stick into. It's awesome to have the mechanical pencil stop working altogether once you use it so much.

They were really really really cheap. This semester alone. I had one of my mechanical pencils fall apart in class. The eraser came out. The part where the graphite comes out got lost and something from the inside bounced away.

Also. Another fault some wooden pencils have is the eraser. I have had the chance to use erasers that instead of erasing, actually turned everything it touched red.

I seriously need to stop buying cheap shit.

Seriously, the slightly more expensive ones are worlds better. And even if each pencil is twice as expensive, we're not talking about a lot of money. The simple disposable Bic ones are my pencil of choice, and they work just fine.

Can't say I eat pencils, but I have been known to chew on things for their texture before. Antacid tablets are crumbly.

Hmm... and I don't think I even have a pencil (mechanical or otherwise) at work. I know I have several at home, but I wouldn't know where right now..... still can't find things after I moved.

Yeah, the cheap Bic ones are the best. I've never had a problem with them, and you can get about 20 for what, a few bucks?

They've lasted me all year.

However, I have some regular pencils as well. Just in case.
I also have pens, because I use pencils only in math and chem, the classes I have erase a lot in.

I have to wonder where this all came from. Chewing on the writing utensils themselves is just destructive

I avoid doing this.

Simply because a face filled with ink during class is not a moment I wish to have.

Heh... that happened to me... bored out of my mind listening to my instructor DRONE on about math fractions and compound fomulas... chewed on the end of my ballpoint pen... then left quickly to head home to wash the damn ink off. Bleh... I can still taste it, since it happened today...

I don't chew on my pencils, and I use the same Mechanical pencil I used all the way through highschool.

Graphite? Blech. I prefer to use the end of my mechanical pencil to clean out my fingernails.

It does work pretty well for cleaning out fingernails... But no, I definitely don't chew on my writing utensils, nor what comes from my writing utensils.

I do vaguely remember chewing on pencils several years ago, though... But that was back in elementary school. Seeing how I'm in college now... yeah. Time has passed.
