Sometimes when bored in class, I'll take out one of my mechanical pencils, hold down the eraser, and pull out the graphite currently being used to write, and then just chew on it

It's not unhealthy, as the stuff just can't be digested and passes right through... But I can't help the feeling that it's a really freaking weird thing to do.

Yeah, sounds pretty odd. Just watch you don't get a lead one somehow.

You're thinking of lead, Shyguy. Graphite is pure carbon.

Edit: And before anyone says it, I know pencil lead isn't pure graphite and contains clay, but the clay is also neutral and it's a lot more accurate than pencil lead itself.

Edit edit: And I'm aware that the pencil lead in mechanical pencils is also mixed with wax, so don't mention that either. Again, neutral substance.

Blech. Does it taste good?

My lab partner once got dared to lick a plate with table salt and phenolphthalein and he did it and then he asked the teacher and she said it would cause severe intestinal distress.

...

Yeah.

I tend not to eat stuff that's not food.

You're silly.

The eraser end tastes much better.

I used to eat the eraser in Grade 2. That kinda ended when I got sick off it, surprising as that may seem. Really bad tummy ache.

It's nearly tasteless. Slightly bitter, though. However, it has a consistency which is pleasing when crushed between the teeth.

Edit: Colin, rubber can often house bacteria and worms, so I'm not terribly surprised if it was in a classroom environment that you did this

Oh, it was in a classroom environment.

...Oddly enough, it was my OWN eraser, not some eraser that was used by the school since 1978. Then I could draw some logical conclusions.

That's a bit strange, yeah. I've never actually ate the graphite itself, mainly because I don't use many mechanical pencils (and personally, I would never do that in a wooden one )

But hey, it's not the weirdest thing in the world at least

You seriously need to find something better to do while bored.

I used to eat toothpaste as a child.

Now. I simply bite my nails until I have stubs. But that is due to nervousness and not boredom.

Yay for slight drunkenness! Speaking of which, either my tolerance has increased or there wasn't as much alcohol in what I drank as I thought there was, because I really don't feel too drunk.

As for the main topic of this thread...yes, that is very weird.

Yes, that's definitely out of the ordinary, but I shouldn't really say it's too weird though, as I've had my own experience with this sort of thing. I won't go into detail, but let's just say back in grade 5 or so in public school, I ended up having the writing end of a pencil in my mouth for the duration of an assembly in the gym, entirely of my own will, mind you I can't remember why I did that, but right now, I'm glad nothing bad came about because of it

I think I know what you're talking about, but just to make sure, you're saying you eat these sorts of things, right? If so, I think you'd be more at risk for cutting the inside of your mouth. After all, those things are awfully small, and can become really sharp when broken in half. Even provided you manage to keep from injuring yourself, I'd think your mouth would be awfully dark after.

If it's not harmful, I don't see why anyone would have a serious problem with it, so enjoy, I guess

In elementary, I used to suck on the pencil lead. I didn't chew it or anything, but still.. I don't think that was the healthiest thing to do.

OMG Alastor. I forgot to tell you that I came over one day and replaced your graphite with REAL LEAD! XD

So THAT'S how people become lead-foot. *Rimshot*

Oh yea, I eat my boogers.... ....j/k.

When I'm bored in class, I get detentions the next day because, I fall asleep. [Teachers know you were sleeping by the big red imprint of your notebook on the side of your face.... so next time, bring a pillow]

Oh ya, and.....congratulations on that there Alastor...
