I'm not going to comment on whether I'll play it or not (that will depend on other things), I just think this is a poor choice for a name; unless maybe Nintendo's intention is to create a whole bunch of internet jokes. I find it hard to believe that they're going to be able to "market away" the toilet humor puns. No matter what, it's still going to sound weird when you say -- in all seriousness -- that you're playing with your Wii, or that you're having friends over to play with the Wii, or whatever. Gaming is supposed to be a recreational activity sure, so I guess there's no need for a name to be serious as such, but I don't see why it has to be this ridiculous either. Hell, I'm sure my Mum will find it funny. She already feels the need to make the obligatory "you pea-d on the table" joke everytime anybody knocks peas off their plate... |

| Now that i've slept on the name, I dont mind it so much.
The video Nintendo released with the name announcement has set in and now it makes perfect sense. And as long as they put a (Nintendo) logo on the corner of the box, uninformed people will still know its Nintendo's new console so there are no worries there. Of course it will take some getting used to saying "Wana play the Wii?" but after a while it will fade away, as most odd names. |

The only way they'll change the name is if there's a riot at E3, which of course won't happen. 
Besides, if the Wii blows people away at E3 (and Sony stumbles like everyone's thinking) then nobody's going to care.  |

| I was just about to mention that because Kotaku posted a story on how Nintendo hasn't registered Wii yet - and you'd think they would have done that days if not weeks ago.
A few people are speculating that Wii is some sort of viral marketing campaign, but... why? |

Haven't you heard of NESticle? Seriously, that's the name of an NES emulator. Does it make the emulator any less good? Nope.
Anyway, I find this amusing. I just told one of my friends about it. She hardly ever plays games, but when I told her the name she said, "Wow, that's really cool and different! People need to be more open-minded. I like it." And when she saw the logo, she said, "Oh, hey the 'i''s look like little people! I get it!" Just an interesting muse there. There's something all of us core gamers need to keep in mind. Casual gamers don't CARE about names of products as much as wii do. Look at the iPod for example. Do people give a crap that iPod has nothing to do with music and sounds like a freakish device? Do people care that PlayStation sounds like a place 6 year-olds go for edutainment? Nintendo hasn't registered 'Wii' yet? Hm...in the immortal words of Bloo, "Suuuuspiiiiiciouuuussss." |

I'm mildly disappointed that they changed it, Revolution was so fitting. But it's not going to deter me from getting one and playing it, it will just make me a little uncomfortably going and buying it if I have to ask where it is. |
