Exactly what it sounds like. It stopped working. So now I have to paste every time I want to end a sentence.

It sucks. A lot. And yet, it is wierdly funny.

I had a keyboard break completely in the middle of an IM. Had to use the on-screen keyboard, which isn't fun!

Hah hah. That's even worse.

I'm on a laptop, too, else I would fix it fairly quickly. But these things are designed so ridiculously in order to save space... Heck, they don't even use the same design between individual keys.

Are you actually serious?

Oh well. To live without a period is a travesty. Good luck pasting the periods.

Well, it may be possible to remap your keyboard slightly, so if there's some other key you rarely use, you could get it to make a period, maybe...

My right control key sort of popped out once on my laptop for some reason... but I was able to pop it right back in, and it hasn't moved since.

Guess you're not that lucky.

Try swapping a useless key (like Caps Lock) for the period... easily done in Unix, there has to be some MS Windows programs to do it, it's too valuable a feature to be tossed away!

Well, I can think of worse keys that could stop working.

The spacebar REALLY annoys me if I get one that doesn't work properly. As everybody else has said, you should be able to temporarily re-map it; and perhaps you need to look at getting a new keyboard.

You could also try removing the key entirely and just checking that nothing is jammed or spilt and see if cleaning it up will fix it.

Just don't do it to your entire keyboard Some keys don't like being removed.

Are you telling me your keyboard doesn't have a number pad with a decimal key on it? Unless you posted this thread from a laptop, I can't see why you wouldn't be able to use that button. It may not be meant to be used as a period, but it works in a pinch

One of the two keyboards at this computer has been used so much that half the keys no longer pop up to the proper height, and the slightest touch of one is enough to cause it to register as being pressed It still works fine aside from that though. That's about the only keyboard-related problem I can remember having right now though. I've never yet had a key simply stop working out of the blue, which I suppose is a good thing.

Still, to fix it, I'd suggest pretty much what Tarale said, unless you don't mind not having that button work

... I'm getting the keyboard replaced tomorrow anyway, guys

There were other problems with it anyway. This is just the last straw, I guess.

An explanation: I read the first post of the thread, skipped to the bottom to read the last, clicked the "New Reply" button, then skimmed through the rest of the replies in newreply.php. I missed that part of your post, and for that I'm sorry. It won't happen again

I accidentally broke off the 'j' key on my laptop. Oh well, I don't use it very often.

But now you can't use the word 'jiggy' and that is just sad.

I weep for you.

Actually. It really isn't a big deal. You could simply copy and paste a 'j' from another post. But still...

Replace the semi-colon, nobody ever uses that.
Anyways One time the space bar broke off on a keyboard I had, that totally sucked. Fortunetly(sp?) we have keyboards littering our house, so I just grabbed a different one.

It's a lot funnier to say that when you make use of one in your sentence.

There's no reason not to use semicolon; they make good punctuation.

I spilled milk on my keyboard a while back... causing the spacebar to break.. so for about a month I copy/pasted spaces. What's even more annoying though is my sisters shift key is broken... it's awful being on her computer. Yuck.
