This definitely sounds messed up. Do you have any resources FOR the measure? I really can't imagine anything like this could come about unless there were some real benefits, but I can't see at this point what those might be, and I'd like to be informed on the issue.

How the fuck does all this stuff work with people overseas? It's all well and good for idiotic American congresspeople to go oooh laws for the internet, but what about the rest of us?

Arwon: did you read the article? From what I gather, It's mostly american companies doing it, and of course if it catches on, it might spread. infact it's already being done to some extent by some ISPs. You could always use china as an example. Do a google search for "hot dog" there and zoom-insta decapitation . Anyways yeah, it sucks, but there's not much the people can really do about it. it's all about money, and those who have money make the decisions. *setz doesn't have money.

Ughh! That's such bullshit! Why are there so many Nazi rules popping up nowadays? They want the media forced into our heads or something.

The interenet will be boring, then what'll I do?
If they took out Acmlm's board I'd be pissed. Can't exactly live with this place but I can't live without it either.

People will not pay to keep their website "Protected". That's bullshit, and it won't be tolerated. But I'm betting it will be passed, because congress is just a bunch of old fools in chairs.

The american system is flawed in this way. A real democracy would let the people vote on this, rather that a bunch of influenced politicians.

Congress is NOT selling out the internet. Rather, they are doing quite the opposite. See, what I think happened is that some wise guy misunderstood the bill, and it set off a chain reaction that is causing all this paranoia webwide. In fact, this bill will do quite the opposite. If passed, it will provide the FCC with the authority to ensure Net Neutrality, and more. I have know idea how they came to the conclusion that the internet is being sold to commercial ISPs. THANK YOU ASDF

I really didn't think they could possibly be doing what was claimed. Good to finally have some source explaining that.

Yes. They are. It was on the news dude. Go to that site and read everything in it, including the new post that says Congress voted down the Markey amendment.

We lost guys...Looks like the internets going to be controlled afterall...

EDIT: Skydude...They are. Read what I just said. And then look at the newest post at savetheinternet.com...

Err, this is definitely overreacting, and some rather vague information in the original post. The original site suggests the law, if passed, would get rid of Net Neutrality. That would, I agree, be a big problem. From what I can tell, the law, if passed, would ensure Net Neutrality happens. Which would be a good thing. But the law failing, as it did, doesn't mean Net Neutrality is abandoned. The FCC couldn't do anything about it before, and we had things just fine. It's not as dire as they make it out to be.

No. They are not. Go to THAT site and read everything in it. Hell, I could make up a legitimate-looking website about how the US government is trying to hide a weather control device (there's even a law against doing so in the constitution), and if I planned it well, it would be a smashing sucess with many suckers. Of course, that's not the best example, but you get my point. Just because a site says something doesn't mean it is true. In the case of this, it is a either misunderstanding or a sick joke. It is nothing more.

As a matter of fact, I doubt the credibility of all sites on the network that so-called "selling the internet out" is on. It seems more like a propaganda site for the paranoid rather than a legit news site. Also, a lot of those articles seem to be in the general format "SAVE X...FROM THE GOVERNMENT...IT SHOULD BE PUBLIC...FREE SPEECH WILL BE ELIMINATED!"

Eh, it's not so much people not being able to read as wanting to believe that the government would do something like this. Self-confirming hypotheses tend to disregard contradictory facts.

I started using bold and size tags for that reason, I have to admit.
