Speaking of trombones, I saw this one episode of Myth Busters where they tested the old firecracker in the mute myth. It was a complete failure, but fun to watch. The loaded so much TNT into it that a looked like a cannon firing.

I've managed to turn the conversation in a completely different course before.
Granted, it usually involved the view counter and anyone could have done it, but I did it first.



I'm not going to attempt such a thing though. I played the trumpet. I never really cared for music though so I have no idea why I took band. It was probably for that fine arts credit, or something. Should've taken art, or something.

You know what, Id say that you rarely see a girl tuba player, but I just remembered we had a girl sousaphone in marching band

Lets see... from what I recall...

Flutes: Biased towards girls
Clarinets: Fairly even
Saxophones: All guys
Low Woodwinds: Fairly even
Trumpets: Biased towards guys
Low Brass: Biased towards guys
Percussion: Biased towards guys



Yeah... we have yet to get a female saxophone play... nevermind

One of our flutists plays saxophone in Jazz Band...

I think it involves putting a firecracker in the tuba or some odd instrument and then lighting it and then blowing into it to make a cannon or something.

I don't know, but I find the episode where they played with the microwave was pretty cool. It was cool to see a CD, aluminum foil, and other things in a microwave. They would have put a poodle in the microwave, but...

And the jawbreaker in the microwave? THAT WAS AWESOME TO SEE IT EXPLODE!

All of the bassoon players (all...3 of them...) that I know are girls, so it still seems to follow. I really have to wonder how instruments get biased towards one gender or another. Aside from Tubas, whose necessary lung capacity and sheer size seem slightly more biased to guys, reasonably.
