Uh, well, I tried deleting the stupid drunk post, but nothing happens. Isn't there supposed to be a pop-up window asking if I want to delete the post? And yes, I did uncheck the box for blocking pop-ups.

And no, I am not drinking tonight, I am staying home.

Eh, I must have spilled something on my cellphone. It simply does not start up. And when I connected it to the charger, it started making this crackling sound, so I quickly disconnected it again, but the sound continued for a good while afterwards. It certainly didn't sound good.

It was comparable to the sound of a geiger counter when it is near a radioactive source..

Rule of thumb upon spilling shit on electronics is to never apply power until it's dry.

Yeah, I .. kind of figured that one out.

I have opened it and removed the battery and the SIM card, and I will leave it like that for a few days to dry up.

Of course I am hoping it will start working again, but it is most likely fucked.

Yea, but if you do that, you ruin all the good fun that you'll have once you do. Its just better if you let it run the course instead of avoiding it.

Barely getting high speed Internet?

I got mine back in May of 2005. Once it was installed, the internet became part of my life. That was the best day ever.

I'd like high*er* speed internet.

Upgrade the lines near my house already kthx. (And without me having to call Bell's CS that's outsourced to India now.)

I still have dialup at my house. Luckily, I can usually connect to either linksys or NETGEAR with my laptop, neither of which are password-protected.

I recently convinced my mom to stop using AOL and get a different ISP. I'm still finding and deleting crap that AOL put onto the computer.

I remember when I used to have dial-up... Downloading things took so much longer. I was suprised how much faster cable is.

Exactly, which is why I despise AOL. AOL dial-fucking-up, that is.

Took me a goddamn 20 minutes to download a 5 FIVE minute Youtube. Kill me.

[rolls eyes] Everything's a convenience for people anymore.

This is when I boast that I've DL'd gigabytes of info in a single uninterrupted session with my dial-up here that maxes at 3KB/sec. Go Bittorrent.

Seriously, though, the best I've had a 56K work at was 5.66KB/sec steady. I DL'd tRO back in the day in 45 straight hours for a 700MB file.

Course, when I DID have DSL at 1.5MBps, that would have gone significantly faster than that. BUT STILL...that shows I have the endurance to brave it.

And once DSL becomes available here (coming up fast with no cable) I am so getting 3Mbps at least for down.

You're not alone. I still download absolutely huge shit over 56k. It'd be faster if my dumbass mom didn't stop the downloads though

It takes me about 2 or 3 days to download 1GB. I'd know, I've gotten Linux before

We only have one phone line at our house, and my mom constantly talks on the phone. So it's extremely difficult to get anything downloaded before she kicks me off.

Download resuming is a wonderful thing.

Same here (except add sister to the phone...). Add to the fact my ISP disconnects me when I am connected for four hours for "security reasons" and there is the reason I hate downloading big things. I don't like waking up every few hours duing the night to reconnect and resume the download...

I'd do it. I used to download during the night. But that was with Earthlink, not PeoplePC...

Heh, my internet connection disconnects itself after about one hour of being connected. And then the computer must be restarted to be able to connect again.

Also, my ISP is actually the university itself (through a VPN). So yeah, I haven't downloaded anything in a while.

I've got cable, my problem is that it's wireless to my laptop and for one reason or another, the wireless router always cuts out. It goes great for a few months, and then I get a month of extremely crappy connection. Oh well.

I get something just like that every so often, too. Right now I've been in good shape with my connection for a few weeks at least. Soon enough, I'll restart the modem or something and bam, end up with bad network connections at both of my wirelessly connected computers. I use DSL, though, and my ISP recently sent an offer for a "free" upgrade to a higher speed... didn't read much into it, but sounds a bit fishy one way or another.
