the face structure isn't bad, but his chin tilts off to the side. Neck is insanely thick, and a little too long. eyes seem too wide, even if he's asian . the hair... Is very weird, it looks more like a poofy wig than something attatched to his head, I don't get the highlights, they really make no sense. judging by the structure of the shoudlers I would guess it's female? Also the right [his left] shoulder doesn't seem to align with his body right. It looks like you have some lines in the hair that really don't belong. In short, apart from the lips I don't like it. [edit] I will admit that it's a great improvement over your last drawing. I would suggest looking for some tutorials on anatomy before doing much else, you seem to lack knowledge of how the human body is constructed.

Good... good. It's a rather awkward tool but keep playing with it. If you wanna go pro, set the brush stroke to 1, flow from 25 to 50% and set the resolution from 100ppi to 300ppi (instead of the usual 72ppi). That's how the pros make anime using the pen tool.

Keep looking up random anime pictures and observe the forms carefully. You could use some thin lines in the hair, just to make it look more than a huge plastic plate on your character's head.

Also try using some extreme angles on your characters. Maybe an ant's view, like you're looking up at them or looking down. It may be intimidating but really, it's easier to draw than it seems.

Or just use openCanvas

Meh, I never got the hang of the pen tool myself, it never flowed "smoothly" enough for me. Your lines seem smooth enough though, so props to you.

My most obvious critique is that your eyes seem too large and therefore then too close together. Make them smaller, but I suspect by keeping them centered to their pupils you'll then achieve the correct spacing too....

Just gotta be smarter than the pen tool.

'Ctrl+Click' outside of the workpath allows you to create another path while keeping your previous path. This new path is called a "subpath". You can stroke the subpath separately or all together.

Right-clicking on the workpath opens up 'stroke path', 'fill path' or 'make selection'. And with the selection tool, you can change it back to a work path.

Holding control with an active workpath allows you to manually alter your current path. This comes in handy when you're doing curves or if you mess up.

Pressing 'Enter' (with the 'Pen' tool still active) will deactivate your workpath. Some people make the mistake of pressing 'Escape' twice, it's just annoying and time consuming.

[ ! ] When penning, make sure your brush/pencil settings are correct. You don't want to accidentally use a grungy brush and make a poopstain instead of that clean line you wanted.

Just some quick tips for ya!

Me too but I've limited access to a scanner and I cannot find any available tablets for my computer so, eh. Go figure.

I'll just order one when I'm not paying so much for everything else.

lol... I know that feeling (currently living on rice crackers and other cheap food due to a severe lack of funding).

Well, if you do have a tablet, openCanvas (despite it's severe Engrish) is a great program to use with it User friendly, simple and versatile

Another thing I used to do was try to scan in mostly-completed sketches, and use things such as Levels and uh... .. uhm.... (mental blank).... Adjustments > Threshold to create linework

Oooh ooh! Or you go to the layers/channels/paths thing, and go to Channels... find the Blue Channel and copy it, then I think it's.... Ctrl+I.. which inverses it. Then go back to Layers, and create a new layer. Go to Select and Load Selection. Pick "Blue Copy" from the Channel" drop down

This gives you a layer with a selection on it that you can fill with black paint, or blue or brown or grey or a gradient, or whatever color you'd like to use as your linework

Shut up Setz. You obviously are building YOUR ego by putting him down. This I know is true because you admitted to being ponderously selfish.

I happen to think that is a very great anime drawing. Although one flaw, I seem to go back and forth between its gender. Sorry.

I happen to posess advanced art skills myself, this may not be the best, but its anything but lacking anatomy.

Great job Clockworkz.

Minus the blatant bashing of people who point out flaws in an obviously flawed piece, please. I mean come on... If he doesn't know what's wrong, how can he make better work?

No, I'm not posting critique to boast my ego. I'm posting critique so he knows how to better himself. How can someone get better if they cannot see the flaws? I know myself I don't always see the flaws in my work, though I know they're there, it takes someone else to point out what's wrong with an image. There's a difference between being rude and giving someone critique, while my views come out harsh, they are infact helpful. Infact being harsh is alot more effective than "zomg great job" -- which does aboslutely nothing to improve one's skills. He asked for comments so I told him what I seen in the piece. To quote myself; Sugar-coating suckiness will do nothing to help you in the real world. Am I selfish? yes, I am. Do I appreciate good artwork? yes, and I would like to see more; which is why I didn't just say "Your work sucks." I explained to him what the problems were, and tried to help him improve so I could see more good artwork. If you think elsewise you're wrong.

No, you told him what was wrong with it. Also adding some "weird"'s and "make no sense"'s. You NEVER told him what he could do to make it better. You just shot it down.

Now, I will believe you if you say you WERE trying to help, but in fact, with no actual "HELP," it is nothing less but classified as, being rude. Seriously. Revise your post, at least give him some pointers as in... "The highlights really make no sense, "I would suggest you make highlights around negative spaces and negative depth toward that of the light source."" This would be called "helping."

He's right though. Blunt as he is, hes right. I appreciate you coming to my defense, but criticism is something I hafta take as an artist. Just let it go, dude. I learned from Stez, and did my best to make sure those mistakes aren't made in future works
