Dude, this is better than Shatner's idea of having a show dedicated to him being a Star Trek Academy instructor. We already have him dispensing advice at the end of Boston Legal, we don't need him doing it in two shows.

Although, personally, I'm not a fan of Abrams all too much. Alias as a show bored me, and there are too many problems with Lost to count. Well, actually, just one. They have to kill Michelle Rodriguez character in the most grotesque way possible to placate fans who have become Lost (hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!) like myself.

Hubby told me that they want to start doing movies again.

There's also talks about a Star Trek Manga.

You know, at some point the continuation of the Federation is going to defy all logic. If it's really so big, then by all rights it should be following the same path as other great empires and falling in on itself, examples being the Roman empire, umm... the Roman... empire... and...

You know what? It's simpler just saying I'm not gonna watch this movie.

The Federation isn't an empire. It a confederated set of allied planets. Think of it as a feasible UN.

The sad thing is the Star Trek main website says this film in early conception is going towards the classic Star Trek era of Kirk's time. Personally I would prefer another TNG/Picard era short story of the main plot continuation of DS9/Sisko

This actually sounds like something of an interesting concept. Prequels can definitely be interesting, though the problem you often run into is that if you have a character in a prequel that isn't in the thing that comes later, you must dispose of him or her somehow. Not necessarily killing, but you need a reason why we never see that person again.

Star Trek canon is easily bent because of the time scales we're talking about and Roddenberry's general ambiguity surrounding the origins of many characters (Berman, as good as his early work was, ruined this ). The Star Trek canon easily accomodates any necessary changes made to it. I mean, Star Trek V is ignored as part of the canon of the entire series.

This actually doesnt sound half bad. If done right I think that a movie from just before the original trek can be pulled off...and with a new producer and stuff who knows what can happen. Cant wait to see what it looks like.

The reason Enterprise didnt strike fans like the rest is, I believe because they went back to far, and also made a few mistakes that didnt necessarily follow the way star trek happened.

The series 'Enterprise' was terrible for may reasons but the primary's are:
The Temporal Cold War
This was a series long arc from Season one to series end. The main problem with this arc is they literally destroyed the entire cannon timeline and several times brought in the prospect that anything can be changed and anything can happen leaving the series open for new stories for Enterprise but at the same time ignoring everything we already know of things to 'supposedly' come.

Prequel
I personally am a fan of Prequels if done well. Personally I don't mind Enterprise season 1, 2, and 5 for the reasons that the majority of episodes we're about the exploration, mini-arcs, and the principals/ethics behind Star Trek.

Star Trek: The Original was of course the introduction so it stands out as the epical landmark of the franchise and mythology, The Next Generation (TNG) was the greatest series for just showcasing this mythology through singular episodes. The primary sub-plot behind every TNG season was the prospect of what the Federation and more so the Star Trek Universe meant from the Original Series which is great!! It is like the Original series 2.0. Deep Space Nine (DS9) was the greatest as a TV series which was the first Star Trek series to bring in the prospect of main plot arcs, however these arcs changed over the seasons and did over lap so it wasn't just systematic to the season. Seasons 1-5 had the Maquie (SP) rebellion as a problem, 3-5 had the Klingon War against every major race at the time which was quite interesting, the Bajoran arc because of the location of the DS9 Space Station, and of course the Dominion. The Dominion are really two arcs, the first being the discovery of this race and their gradual introduction from one social level of the Dominion to another, the second twist is the actual Dominion War which is some of the GREATEST TV series episodes I have seen... ever. And of course the disraces that we're Voyager and Enterprise for similar reasons.

This is why the Original Star Trek idea is alright but TNG and DS9 plot orientated are the better choices in my opinions.

Of course there is one topic many have brought up before as a new direction which familiar stomping grounds being, the U.S.S. Titan commanded by Captain William T. Riker. This to could be a good idea for a big screen but might cause be controversial and problematic to some of the Trekkie/Trekker community.

FYI: I have been an active and registered member of the Star Trek dot Com website for over 5 years... I have alot to say on the matter =D.

There's no point in continuing Babylon 5. It was always planned to be just 5 seasons. Asking for more would be like asking an author to write more chapters to a book.

Is that why they've made like 5 movies as well, and the ill-fated Crusade series?
