This is another hack I'm currently working on. This is a hack of Super Mario World (duh) which features Super Mario Bros. 3 All-Stars graphics including the musical soundtrack. This game features all-new levels and overworld, and a nifty blast to the past in the Special Zone (I'm not telling what it is though).

All levels will be majorly detailed... well, as much as possible. I'm going to try to make each level look fitting for the area its in. This game will not feature just random blocks that come out of my head and you have to get your way through the level, I'm trying to make the environments and level gameplay as smooth as possible with progressive challenge.

The gameplay is a mix of both Super Mario Bros. 3 AND Super Mario World. For example, you'll still have the same Super Mario World interface, and some things such as the jumping piranha plants. The goombas will require jumping on and tossing into another enemy in order to kill them, just like in Super Mario World. Level style will be a mix of SBM3 and SMW.

Screenshots:

A demo will be released as soon as I finish the first area including the overworld (Paradise Land).

You kinda gave away the special world levels there anyway. They are obviously going to have smb1 or smb3 levels in it. And, smb3 graphic only hacks are overused. But it sounds good never the less

Yeah I know I gave it away. *saddened* But it's pretty obvious. Maybe I should have some kind of vote as to which levels from SMB1 and SMB3 are included. One of them will be 1-2 from SMB3.

I hate to bring you down...but there have been so many SMB1 and SMB3 remake levels in SMW hacks, especially recently with all of peter_ac's remakes. Even if you include SMB3 gfx in the SMB1 remake levels, it will still be very unoriginal because peter_ac just finished a remake of SMB1 with SMB3 gfx (damn, some originality please ). Anyway, I think everyone needs a break from remakes. Just make your best and most creative levels for your special world, people will appreciate it more when you design your very own levels rather than make another overused remake. Good luck!

Yeah I know... I already know that they're used too much. That's why I was going to put them only in the special zone.

Well nonetheless, I'm just saying, it might not be worth it for players to go through the trouble of reaching the Special Zone just to play some remakes that they've seen a bunch of times. Just trust your own creativity to make some really cool levels for the Special Zones, just try to think a bunch of ideas for a theme for that world, you'll come up with something cool.

I want at least one cameo level... I already made zone 1-2 in SMB3. I guess other than that I'll just make my own levels.

You should never, never, never post a hack announcement thread if you don't have any screenshots yet. The SMW hacking community has seen enough cases of overwhelming hack announcements followed by crappy screenshots weeks after, so screenshotless announcements are not convincing. Not convincing at all.

Although you're right, this still sounds interesting. Maybe for Special World, you can add in cameo levels, such as Sonic and SSBM.

How about this, if you feel you HAVE to do cameo levels, at least try one from SMB2 they're a challenge to make, and usually turn out short, but it does provide that originality factor, once again however try and copy levels from different games, such as sonic, donkey kong country, Donkey kong county 2, and even the original donkey kong(tha'd be cool) Just be sure to use lots of original levels and graphics, and ALWAYS be sure to post screenshots, sounds pretty cool though

Some screenshots should be posted in approximately an hour and a half from this post... that is, if i don't run into any problems. Don't worry. I do realize the problem with screenshotless threads but I'd figure I'd make a bit of suspense for anyone who finds it in the least, interesting.

I hope to release a demo within a couple of weeks of the first area.

Check back in a couple of hours for screenshots. If possible, I will bump the thread with them if there has been a post after this one. If not, check out the first post in this thread and I'll just place them there.

I gotta admit, it doesn't look that bad at all. I see that you've used a lot of SMB3 graphics and stuff. Pretty nice. Couple of screens need a tiny bit more work, like more sprites and obstacles, but thats about it.

All in all, nice work (so far)

Yeah, some of the screenshots I already cleared with coins and enemies so they look a little empty. I like giving levels detail with shape, backgrounds, objects, sprites, etc... that level will have a lot of bushes and hills along with ponds (1-2).

I'll post more stuff about this game soon. I'm glad you like it.

Why is it particularly "interesting"? Seriously, have you all missed that much or are you trying to win brownie points, insisting "yes" without reason? I see nothing different and peter_ac seems to be the only one to pull it off, not by biast opinion but because he's adopted this style of level design (which you failed to imitate btw) almost a year ago. I didn't intend on shooting down your first effort though, keep this in mind. Just try to make something at LEAST look new.

Outside of that:
I'm just irritated to see that few are willing to come up with anything new or innovative in the past 6-8 months. I know a lot of newbies get pissed at me (look at my rating) just because I give my honest opinion. Small minds (you know who you are) as small minds tend to do, become engraged at the slightest poke of criticism. Just in case you misunderstood my points, I apologise in advance.

As I am a newbie with ROM hacking, I do not have any graphics experience OR ASM experience at all. I understand your criticism (although note it's not exactly constructive criticism... you know, the important kind). There are a couple things different than peter_ac's games and the levels are one of the most important aspects and that's something I'm said to be good at making. But this is just a first project. Thanks anyway... I think.

It looks alright; but on the honest side, not too interesting. I think it's the graphics... But the level design looks okay; no glinches around, ect...

Before, there was something waaay lower than that.
